Rosamund or one of these?

So, after much disagreement DH and I managed to come up with 2 names we'd both consider: Clara and Freya. I like them but not sure either is right. Having last min thoughts about Rosamund, Rosa for short. Baby due in 2 weeks. Thoughts?

I really don't like Rosamund but Rosa is lovely. Freya and Clara are also nice. My order would be Freya, Rosa, Clara, Rosamund.

grasspigeons · 08/08/2017 08:32

I prefer Clara. I really like Rosa, but Rosamund is one of the few names I'm not keen on. I think it's the how to pronounce it thing. I like Rosanna or Rosalie but Rosa stands own to me.

MissBax · 08/08/2017 08:35

Freya is very popular where I live at the moment so for that reason alone I'd, personally, not use it.
I don't mind Rosamund, but prefer Roslyn/Roslin/Rosalin :)

MammieBear · 08/08/2017 09:19

Rosamund is more unusual that might be why you doubt it but it's a lovely strong name with good Nn potential so for that reason that name seems right for you fraya and Clara your a bit more limited with for Nn.

RiverTam · 08/08/2017 09:20

Are you a Chalet School fan, by any chance OP??

Rosamund is a beautiful name.

Gooseberrycrumble4 · 08/08/2017 09:22

Rosa Maude

FizzyGreenWater · 08/08/2017 09:29

If you want a Rosa short form then I wouldn't have Rosamund, lovely as it is. The first sound is Roz, not Rose, and that is what she may well end up as!

So: Rosalie, Rosemary? Rosina is a really old form, that is nice.

Clara is lovely, Freya I am not keen on (and it's got much more popular in recent years).

glowwormsunite · 08/08/2017 12:42

Love Rosa but really dislike Rosamund (it's the MUND - makes it sound so ugly)...Freya is OK but there are billions of them about. Not keen on Clara but like Cara a lot.

krakentoast · 08/08/2017 13:45

The only Rosamund I know is nicknamed Rozzy or Roz, which I think sounds very harsh. I think it's a beautiful name in its whole form but worth keeping all shortenings in mind and not just your preferred one. Rosa by itself is a beautiful name too so you could just go for that?

Clara and Freya both lovely. Definitely more popular than Rosamund.

Ceebs85 · 08/08/2017 14:12

Dislike Rosamund but Rosalie is pretty. The mund makes it sound dumpy and frumpy IMO.

But if you've decided it's getting shortened to Rosa why not call he Rosa? It's short and sweet but sophisticated enough to stand the test of time as she grows up.

Chloris33 · 08/08/2017 14:22

Yes, agree Rosa lovely, but as I mentioned DH strongly vetoed it as a name in itself, so perhaps I'm just trying to get it by the back door in suggesting it as nn for Rosamund. But you're right she might end up with different nn. I'm surprised to hear Clara is popular- I thought it was relatively uncommon, though I know Freya is getting really popular.

Oooh yes to Rosamund!! It's the name of the gothic girl in the children's stories "Nate the great" (very popular in the states Anyways) I love it. Very mysterious and elegant and unusual

krakentoast · 08/08/2017 15:52

I only know Clara is getting popular because we were also considering it and Freya (I'm due in October) and then noticed TONS of little Claras and Freyas around everywhere! That's not data but it gave us pause.

Obviously we have similar taste in names OP. Love all your ideas tbh.

Theveryhungrybutterfly · 08/08/2017 18:04

Rosamund will likely get shortened to Roz not Rosa, because that is the sound. You can't engineer nicknames as a parent, they'll take on a life on their own at school! And Roz is much less nice than Rosa. Can't you just have Rosa? Rosa is lovely.

Freya and Clara are about equally popular I think from people I know. Both nice but I would choose Clara and Rosa, they sound good together, both more vintage sounding.

HoratioNightboy · 08/08/2017 19:16

I don't know any real life Rosamunds so my only reference is Corrie. I thought for years they were saying "Rozzaman Street" and I think it sounds awful.

daisypond · 08/08/2017 20:54

I prefer Rosamund to both Clara and Freya. Clara is just a bit...meh, though it's nice enough. Freya is horrid. Rosamund is a classic, and not common. You can shorten it to Rosa if you want - I don't see why not.

Chloris33 · 09/08/2017 05:48

Krakentoast, yes we must have same taste! Do you have anything else on your list? Would love to know for further inspiration!

Well, I also like:

Lydia
Nell (Penelope)
Nina
Orla
Marigold
Imogen
Rosalind
June
Flora
Matilda

Sorry if none of them take your fancy though. We haven't decided yet! Still a few weeks to go...

SukiTheDog · 09/08/2017 08:29

Clara. Very pretty and not shorten-able. My friend's little girl is Lara. Love that too.

diodati · 09/08/2017 08:35

Rosamund! I wish I'd remembered that name when I had DD.

MikeUniformMike · 09/08/2017 12:12

Rosamund is pronounced Rozza-mund, so would not naturally shorten to Rosa or Rose. Nothing to stop you using Rosa or Rose though but why not just call her Rosa.
Freya and Clara aren't as pretty.

MikeUniformMike · 09/08/2017 12:13

I prefer Rosalind to Rosamund.

Rosamund Clara (or Rosalind Clara) is stunning.

Chloris33 · 11/08/2017 14:40

Thanks all. Krakentoast also love Flora, which has been high on my list, and Imogen & Marigold too. Unfortunately DH does not feel the same way. Funnily enough my 2 year old boy absolutely insists that the baby is 'Rosie'!
