Kit for a girl?

Not as a nickname, as the full legal name.

I like it a lot but is it a serious enough name for whatever she wants to do?

When she grows up, I mean.

Would go with Katherine - shortened to Kit (Kitty being usual nn for Katherine)

Applebei · 06/08/2017 20:51

Katherine is the name of a family member! So I can't use it.

Kit is often nn for Christopher - so what about bc Christine/a or even Kirsty?

SuperBeagle · 06/08/2017 21:39

I find it a harsh, insubstantial sort of name. I don't even like it as a nickname.

If my name was Kit, I'd get it changed to Kate.

SaltySeaBird · 06/08/2017 21:43

I have an aunt called Kit but her full name is Kitora

guineapig1 · 06/08/2017 21:48

I wouldn't go for just Kit. Maybe Catherine, Katherine, Katriona, Kate or Kitty at a push. I would generally assume Kit to be male and short for Christophet if I saw the name on a list tbh

imip · 06/08/2017 21:49

Dd is kitty as her full legal name. We call her Kit. I really don't like the name Katherine. I know it's mumsnet law to give your child a name that no one will laughter at when they are the Prime Minister, but I love the name Kitty!

imip · 06/08/2017 21:50

Kit was my dgm name btw, short for Katherine.

Another kitty is on the other side of my family (great uncle's second wife) a huge scandal in our family Grin

Sophronia · 07/08/2017 02:35

I like it short for Katherine or Christina

Cupcakey · 07/08/2017 03:10

The car in Knight Rider was called Kitt
That's the first thing I thought of. Kitty is nice and softer sounding. Hmm

LorLorr2 · 07/08/2017 03:21

I think it's cool! And tomboy-ish.
It reminds me of the American Girl doll with that name haha.

LorLorr2 · 07/08/2017 03:22

Yes I would say it's fine for when she grows up, it's non-fussy. I know a warm and sociable Kit in her 40s

Bue · 07/08/2017 03:40

I love it and considered it but would always go for a full name. Katherine/Kathleen/Katya/Christina etc.

Bue · 07/08/2017 03:41

LorLorr2 me too! Kit was a very feisty American Girl! Grin

ladybirdsaredotty · 07/08/2017 09:21

I absolutely love it. I would go for Kitty on birth certificate, I think. Although I would have slight reservations about it being too nicknamey, I love it so much I think I'd get over them!

LorLorr2 · 07/08/2017 13:28

Hehe Bue! She'd be a great namesake to have. It's the only AG I'm familiar with Grin

AmyOb · 07/08/2017 14:30

Kit would be great as a nick name. Maybe some full names as Katrine, Katrina, Katriane, Katarina, Cathrine, CathIyn, Catheryna, Catheryn, Catherin, Catalyn, Caitriona. Easter Smile

EssentialHummus · 07/08/2017 14:36

Catriona? I'd use it as a NN for a longer name, not hugely keen on it as a name in itself.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 07/08/2017 15:06

I prefer it to Kitty, which I'm not keen on. But I prefer Katherine / Christina etc with Kit for short.
