I think I know the answer to this one, but I love this boys name soo much....
Can I have Hugo with Margot? Or is that just a no-go? We already have a Margot so she is non-negotiableSmile. Too rhymey?
(I'd always discounted it, but recently came across siblings Jago and Margot which gave me hope!)

Too rhymy to me anyway. Middle name perhaps if you really like it?

Chaffinch4 · 05/08/2017 08:46

Actually I think it's OK (just) as they don't actually rhyme. Plenty of people have siblings with names all ending in y (Lily / Freddy) or a (Clara / Flora) for example. I don't think Hugo and Margot would be different from that.

SoyUnPerdedor2 · 05/08/2017 08:48

I know a family who do!
Except their Hugo is older.

Jooni · 05/08/2017 09:07

It is a bit repetitive, but I actually think it's fine. I think it helps that one's a boy and one's a girl so probably less likely to get mixed up.

Floggingmolly · 05/08/2017 09:08

You can have whatever you want. I've never understood the relevance kids names have to each other Confused

MissBax · 05/08/2017 09:11

I wouldn't think anything of it myself

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 05/08/2017 09:45

Of course you can, I certainly would.😄

daisypond · 05/08/2017 09:54

It's fine.

Threeandabit · 05/08/2017 09:57

Yes. It's fine.

Lovely names too.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 05/08/2017 09:58

I think it's fine. Lovely names.

LadyMaryofDownt0n · 05/08/2017 10:01

Lovely, I'd do it!

Mrsknackered · 05/08/2017 10:01

I'm going to go against the grain. Beautiful names but personally I wouldn't. But I am a bit funny about those things.

shumway · 05/08/2017 10:02

What about Hugh instead?

Xanadu44 · 05/08/2017 10:03

Do it! It's fine!

Floggingmolly · 05/08/2017 10:22

They're just siblings; not a double act. Totally independent of each other.

getonthearkunicorn · 05/08/2017 11:34

Floggingmolly but their names will constantly be said together!

Floggingmolly · 05/08/2017 11:38

By who?

Abetes · 05/08/2017 11:43

Sorry but I really wouldn't. It sounds too twee.

grasspigeons · 05/08/2017 11:46

I don't think sibling names need to match or that siblings spend their lives as a set so it i wouldnt worry if you love the name.

but when I really think about it, I like names to have different initial letters for post and prefer a different end sound. Sometimes it takes the brain a second to kick in, so if you are yelling Hugo or Margot across a park, only bit heard is 'go' iyswim

AtiaoftheJulii · 05/08/2017 11:59

3 out of my 4 have three syllable names with the same last sound. Sometimes I wonder if that's a bit odd,, but really I think it sounds fine. And I think Margot and Hugo is fine too.

InvisibleCities · 05/08/2017 15:09

They do rhyme though Chaffinch - Hue-go and Mar-go.

DramaAlpaca · 05/08/2017 15:11

I think it's fine too. Margot & Hugo works better than Margot & Jago.

Mclaren37 · 05/08/2017 15:28

Thanks all - some of you have got me thinking it might work now. I do think it matters that kids names don't sound ridiculous together, we already have two and their names are said together ALL the time. By everyone we know and more specifically by me! I don't want to cringe while doing it. Especially when shouting to them across a playground etc. I appreciate this phase only lasts about 5-8 years though.
Our eldest is Archer so I'm wondering if I could swing it by always putting his name in the middle?Grin.
(... I'm still working on DH to come round to the name Hamish - re. last post - but not optimistic!)

StripyDeckchair · 05/08/2017 15:38

It's not full rhyme, it's half rhyme or slant rhyme. Full rhyme would be Hargot and Margot or Hugo and Mugo. Grin These would definitely be too much.

I think it's okay but might cause an eyebrow to be raised every now and again when they are introduced together or when one of them (as they get older) is asked their sibling's name. It also slightly increases the likelihood I think that one of them would choose a shortening or nickname (e.g. Hugh, Marg) to more fully differentiate themselves in the future.

What about Henry or Hector?

auntym · 05/08/2017 15:38

Yes you can!
