What do you think of this name combination?

I am 6 months pregnant, with a little girl.

Our surname starts with a 'H' and has an 'ie' ending. ( more of an 'ee' sound)

Since baby will be born in November, we were wondering about Holly.

But then she would have HH as initials and similar 'y/ie' sound at the end, making it rhyme, almost.

Is this a strange sounding name? I appreciate any advice on this.
Thanks

You mean something like Holly Harvie?

OlennasWimple · 27/07/2017 22:20

Bit children's cartoon character, sorry (though alliterating initials is no problem, and can be pretty cool)

notsureifimbeingur · 27/07/2017 22:23

Yes, very like Holly Harvie, but it's not actually that. How do you think that works? Or does it not work?

Bit too matchy matchy. It's very kids tv show character as said above.

MiniAlphaBravo · 27/07/2017 22:25

Why does November suggest holly?

Some rhyming names can be nice imo. I think it works ok op if you like the name holly.

Firsttimemama2017 · 27/07/2017 22:31

I think it's nice!

I wanted Lucy for my little girl but my partner wouldn't let me as our surname also starts with L.

Do it!

notsureifimbeingur · 27/07/2017 22:32

I just thought November time of year will have holly trees, and that might be nice, to bring in the winter maybe?

I'd associate Holly with a Christmas baby, not a November one.

Catherine for Catherine wheels?

buttercup54321 · 27/07/2017 22:46

Holly is more for a Christmas baby.

MamaG1980 · 27/07/2017 22:47

I think it's fine, it's not like it's being said all the time, holly is a nice name

bridgetreilly · 27/07/2017 23:57

Holly Hobbie was my first thought.

It sounds like it might be a bit twee, tbh.

ConstanceCraving · 28/07/2017 09:28

I think it's fine.

notsureifimbeingur · 28/07/2017 17:03

Ok this might be outing, but the surnames

Hosie

So it'll be Holly Hosie?

What do you think about our other choices?

Nieve
Erin
Kiera

OP posts:
Ikeameatballs · 28/07/2017 17:06

No. It's just too twee.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 28/07/2017 17:11

No, it's quite comical.

Letitrain · 28/07/2017 17:35

I like it

Istoletherainbow · 28/07/2017 17:38

I think it's cute.

sycamore54321 · 28/07/2017 17:39

I'm afraid it doesn't work for me. It's more than you described in your opening post, it's all the vowel sounds the same in each name. Holly Healy or something is ok, Holly Hosie would be too much for me.

Bringmewineandcake · 28/07/2017 21:29

It's the repetition of ho that makes it a no for me. Holly Harvey or Hardy sounds ok, but Holly Hosie seems too much

Bringmewineandcake · 28/07/2017 21:30

Just seen your other choices, I love Erin and it goes really well with your surname!

ShoutOutToMyEx · 28/07/2017 21:32

I like it. But I have an alliterative name myself.

mondler · 28/07/2017 21:33

Sorry, I think it's a little too much personally but if you like it go for it.

From your other choices I like Erin best and Holly could work as a middle name?

I'm in the same situation - all the names I love just don't work with our surname!

CaoNiMartacus · 28/07/2017 21:57

Kiera Hosie would be an awesome name!

GinIsIn · 28/07/2017 21:59

In that case no, you really can't have Holly. Sorry!

notsureifimbeingur · 28/07/2017 22:35

Thanks everyone for your opinions, it was kind of the same conclusion I have come to, it's a bit too similar. Will try to choose one of the others then! Thanks all
