Like 'hiya' without the H.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 25/07/2017 10:33

I know an Anaiyah

TurquoiseDress · 27/07/2017 10:18

I would pronounce it as Eye-a as in the place Ayia Napa (resort in Cyprus)

Awful name , could maybe get away with it if not from a British culture.

itstoolateforthisbollox · 27/07/2017 10:23

I-ya.. That what the call her in Game of Thrones

thats Arya, totally different name

MrsWooster · 27/07/2017 10:26

Another vote for "aye ya bugger!", as when a van drove past me through a big puddle yesterday.
It's actually quite a pretty name tho!

Penhacked · 27/07/2017 10:41

Eye-ah is the sound Italians make to mean 'ow'. Bit weird. Aida (pronounced eye ee da) is nicer imo and a known but uncommon name

Oysterbabe · 28/07/2017 21:35

It sounds like my toddler saying hello.

SleepForTheWeek · 28/07/2017 22:44

Where are people getting the rs from???

elQuintoConyo · 28/07/2017 22:48

I'd pronounce it like hiya but without the h.

I know a couple and i think it is pretty.

Isadora2007 · 28/07/2017 22:51

It's awful. Sorry. It's what you may well be shouting as she is born...as in "ayai feck! That hurts!!!"

But as a name. Nah. Don't do that to the poor child. Stick with Anya or Ayla or something.

TheSeaTheSkyTheSeaTheSkyyyyyy · 28/07/2017 23:39

The i and y do seem needless together. It would make me try to pronounce it Ah-ee-ya.

Zhx3 · 28/07/2017 23:45

If you speak Chinese, it's an expression used in frustration/exasperation. I speak Cantonese and when I saw your thread title, I thought immediately of my mum scolding me Grin.

Shemozzle · 28/07/2017 23:54

How Scousers say hello. Hiya without the h.
