So I can't stop thinking about the name Louis if our bean turns out to be a boy.
I either like Joshua Louis or Louis for a first name not sure if a middle.
However at present DH is saying absolutely no way 😭

Hit me with some other boys names that I may like even more .......

I like Louis and my favourite boys names are Noah and Elliot. I see you already said that you don't like Elliot enough, so how about Noah?

ComputerUserNotTrained · 17/07/2017 05:54

I always assume Louis is pronounced the French way, but it's not incorrect to pronounce it with the s, either (as with St Louis, Missouri and Louis Armstrong for example).

howthelightgetsin · 17/07/2017 06:46

I like Louis.

It makes me mad when people on mumsnet suggest calling them Louiee or something so as to make sure people pronounce it right?! Louis is pronounced Lou-ee and if people don't know that then they just don't know the right pronunciation.

RiverTam · 17/07/2017 08:28

I must say, I don't think I'd take lessons in how to pronounce a French name from America (and isn't Louis Armstring pronounced Lou-ee anyway?).

ComputerUserNotTrained · 17/07/2017 09:21

He referred to himself as Louis with an s, other than when he called himself Louie! Google it. It won't help though Grin

grufallosfriend · 17/07/2017 10:12

In most non French countries Louis is pronounced phonetically so Lou-is. It's quite popular in Germany.

The American city is also pronounced St Louis (Lou-is).

NameChange30 · 17/07/2017 12:28

Maybe Louis Armstrong was referring to the spelling when he said "Louis with an s"?
I always thought it was pronounced the French way.

auntym · 17/07/2017 14:16

mumoftheark we always use a family name as our middle name choice. We pick for the family connection rather than choosing a name based on which sounds best or another name you might pick for a first name iyswim. I like your choices of Louis James or Louis George Smile If your DH won't agree to Louis as a first name could you go with George Louis or James Louis (Jamie or Jem as possible nicknames)?

Mumoftheark · 17/07/2017 20:30

@TurquoiseOwl lol I already have a Noah :)

Thanks for all your suggestions everyone. All nice names but none seem like "the one" compared to Louis.
I was originally considering it as a middle name; Joshua Louis but the more I think about it the more I want it as a first.

Think I'll go with the vote of just LTB lol clearly not letting me choose whatever name I want; especially when you have no ideas of your own counts as unreasonable behaviour!

Ah, such a lovely name. I don't like Joshua Blush so go with Louis Grin

AmyGardner · 17/07/2017 21:49

Just kidding, sorry Grin

Sensible suggestions:

Noah and...

Kit
Joseph
Patrick
James
Oliver

Mrsknackered · 17/07/2017 22:22

I would always pronounce Louis, Lou-EE
I like it too OP.
What about -

Archer
Maxim
Ralph
Rohan
Rowan

Mumoftheark · 17/07/2017 22:52

@AmyGardner lol can't believe I didn't make that connection. I'm now sat in bed singing the theme tune lol 🙈

I have a Noah too OP and for DS2 my names on the list were -

Rowan, Elijah (but not Eli!), Levi, Roman, Oscar, Jasper, Sol, Ezra, Amos, Lenny, Frank/Franklin, Reggie and Shiloh.

All were vetoed apart from DS2's name which is in the list :)

OhTheRoses · 18/07/2017 07:58

Hugo, Arthur, Magnus strike as similar genre, Oscar too but v popular now.

I had an Alexander Louis, nn Alfie, so resonant for me.
