Is this name either "dated" today or too associated with Christmas themed baby naming?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SuperBeagle · 14/07/2017 04:03

I think it's dated, but I don't think there's anything obviously Christmasy about it.

It makes me think of the little girl in Call the Midwife and that's set in the 50s/60s, so it does seem very outdated to me, as most names from that era do.

KoalaDownUnder · 14/07/2017 04:05

It's definitely dated. I grew up with plenty of Angelas and I'm 43. I think it's dated to the 70s and 80s.

I don't associate it with Christmas at all, though.

Prefer Anjali.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 14/07/2017 08:16

Much prefer Angelique or Angelina.

Amiable · 14/07/2017 08:49

I love the name, and Angie as a short version (although Angie does remind me of Eastenders!)

anchor9 · 14/07/2017 09:11

v v v dated

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 14/07/2017 09:32

I love it Smile
Long overdue a comeback imo - was popular for a few years in the 70s, but has dropped off since.

Much nicer than the granny-chic names that are everywhere at the mo.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 14/07/2017 10:06

I really like this name, and Im surprised that it hasn't yet, made a comeback. It's lovely, and suits any age group. I don't think of Christmas, when I hear it.

Sophronia · 14/07/2017 11:00

I like it! Angie is really cute as a nn.

whereareallthebobbles · 14/07/2017 12:45

I know a teenage Angela so doesn't seem too dated to me tbh. Suited her when she was a kid too

MammieBear · 14/07/2017 17:56

Angelina is a nice alternative.

Wilhelminaaa · 14/07/2017 19:39

It's dated to me. I think Angelina could do with a comeback though.

TurquoiseOwl · 14/07/2017 19:47

It does sound dated to be. I like Angelica though Smile

TurquoiseOwl · 14/07/2017 19:47

*me

DramaAlpaca · 14/07/2017 20:32

It's dated but not awful. It was popular in the late 60s, on my street growing up there were four Angelas.

As a PP said it's better than all those granny chic names that are around at the moment.

oopsiforgot · 14/07/2017 20:35

I always have and always will love Angela, if I have another and it's a girl I'll definitely use it. It's a beautiful name.

grufallosfriend · 14/07/2017 20:56

I like it although it reminds me of Angela Merkel

roamingespadrille · 14/07/2017 21:00

My name is Angela and I both love and hate it. It is quite unusual I know only 2 others. One of whom lives in the same Hamlet as me. Where we both moved after getting married and bizarrely both have the same first and last name!
I'm not personally a fan of the nicknames either. I get called Ang ( Aaaannng), Angie De Nange and Flange Probably outing myself with the last 2, and them a bit grim.
When I was single and being chatted up, a few years ago mind, Angela Lansbury was frequently mentioned when I said my name. Bit of putting really.

Flofferton · 14/07/2017 21:56

It's not a Christmassy name is it? I know a fair few middle aged Angelas and although it's not a name I'd choose I don't dislike it and you can bet it will be back in fashion in 20 years time.

TurquoiseOwl · 14/07/2017 21:57

@Flofferton - I suppose people think it is due to the angel association?

Flofferton · 14/07/2017 22:06

Oh yes you might be right. I had a religious upbringing though so don't associate angels with a particular time of year. 👼

LittleIda · 14/07/2017 22:13

I like it.
