Rupert (thoughts)

Me and DH really like the name Rupert but every time we tell people, we either get the silence followed by a suggestion of another name, or people outright tell us they don't like it, and its really starting to put me off. However every time I start looking at new names, I cant find anything I like as much as Rupert... your thoughts would be greatly appreciated x

It reminds me of the army slang for officers. It is posh but I like it.

GinAndGooseberry · 10/07/2017 17:37

It's awful, like a parody of a posh name. I do like some hoity toity names but not this one Grin

Windycityblues · 10/07/2017 17:40

I like it but I like slightly pretentious names and both of my pair have them, including a bear related name ! I would just pick what you like.

n0ne · 10/07/2017 17:46

I love it, fwie

MrsC2012x · 10/07/2017 18:14

Thank you lovely lot, I think This confirms More people like it than I thought, and to just keep stum until he gets here, as Im sure people will not be so Rude as to tell me how "awful" it is once he is here and named Smilex

I feel I'm afraid I find it an incredibly wet name. I associate it with a posh boy who is a bit of a dweeb. That said I love the nickname Roo. But you will probably hate my children so don't worry aboutwhat I think.

NowtAbout · 10/07/2017 18:21

Hopefully not hate my children, just their names. They are very sweet!

bridgetreilly · 10/07/2017 19:44

I like it, but it is a name that sounds very posh. Which may or may not be what you want.

MammieBear · 10/07/2017 21:37

Go with it if it's the one you want don't let People stand in the way of the name you want for your child! Smile

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 10/07/2017 21:51

Love it!

grufallosfriend · 10/07/2017 22:22

I like it, but it is a name that sounds very posh. Which may or may not be what you want.

Why are you assuming that the op even cares about that. She may neither want nor not want it!
It's seems a Mumsnet thing, this so called poshness...

Chickydoo · 10/07/2017 22:27

I think it's a bit wishy washy
Just not a strong sounding name.
I know one little boy who always calls himself woopurt.

Topseyt · 10/07/2017 22:28

I like it. If you like it then use it.

Charell20 · 10/07/2017 22:35

I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant with my second child and refuse to tell people my thoughts for names as some people can be just downright rude.

If you told them once he was born that his name was Rupert, they wouldn't say a word.

Sophronia · 10/07/2017 23:10

I quite like it

SuperBeagle · 10/07/2017 23:18

I don't like it, but then I can't imagine anyone seriously being named Rupert now here in Australia...

And my best friend's great dane is called Rupert, so I just think of a dog.

CocoLoco87 · 10/07/2017 23:24

I love it, but then I'm a fan of Rupert Bear Smile

MrsC2012x · 11/07/2017 06:50

**Yesterday 17:32 RiceButt

I have a Rupert, we shared the name pre-birth and didn't receive any negative comments.

I was worried about people's reaction.to his name but eventually stopped caring what people might think as we love the name.

It's a lovely name, but I am biased grin

I wish people were this courteous with us, I think its Rude to tell someone you don't like there choice of name, why ask if you are going to be rude about it?
I think I will keep quiet until he is born, until then I will say he is going to be called "Stormaggedon" that way they may be relieved he is called Rupert 😂

It's an awful name. Wet and feeble.

But if I was introduced to a Rupert, little or large, I would of course keep this opinion very much to myself!

sugarhoneyicetea · 11/07/2017 10:39

I think it's quite a sweet name. Not my taste but the nn Roo is cute for a little one.

MyfanwyMontez · 11/07/2017 10:46

I really like it too but my DH would never have allowed it. As an aside , my little boy wants to be called Barnaby rather than his actual nameGrin I like that too!

medicalmumof4 · 11/07/2017 13:43

We have a Rupert and overwhelmingly get positive comments about his name.

He is a seriously cool little dude and his name suits him perfectly.

And absolutely, don't tell anyone pre-arrival. Congratulations by the way!

Buddyelf · 11/07/2017 13:50

Love it. Very cute name for a baby boy but also sounds grown up enough for a man. Go for it and like pp said - stop telling people, just announce the name when baby arrives

LiviaAD · 11/07/2017 13:55

It's a great name, I went to school with quite a few, but my husband would probably veto that one too.

17caterpillars1mouse · 11/07/2017 13:56

Love it as long as sibling isn't Barnaby
