Yay! Was my late dad's name. A gentle, intelligent man.

I love Antony but hate tony don't let people shorten it.

I think that is my main worry, I wouldn't want it shortened. I just want him to be Anthony, until he is old enough to choose himself of course.

I like it, but are you pronouncing it with a 'th' sound in the middle? Because that always sounds a bit wrong to me, (think it came from America). It is logical though, I have to admit!

Funny you say that Pemba, I always say it with the th sound as I knew quite a few when I was young and they were all th.

user no it's not weird, that's my uncle's name, spelled with the 'h' but not pronounced 'th'. It's the normal way I think? He's about 70 now. I think the 'An - THony' with 'th' is coming in from America.

No, that's normal to pronounce Anthony with a hard t.

You can call him Anthony but be prepared for the fact that he might prefer Ant or Tony or something else.

Australians also pronounce Anthony with a th rather than a hard T. T rather th seems pretty universally accepted in the UK though. I think you have to be ok with Ant or Tony as a shortening and just hope it doesn't happen

Pemba I have a 70 year old uncle called Anthony too, but has been known by a completely different nickname since he was a child.

Back to the original Q - nice names, it would have been DD's boy name. Totally normal to spell as Anthony and pronounce as Ant o nee, although I know a few of both pronounciations. Love the nn Ant.

My DH and DDad, are both Anthonys but are both called Tony, despite both Mums being dead against it. DH is still Ant to his MIL and FIL but not to anyone else.
