Someone I follow in Instagram has a daughter called Romihn... I assumed it was Irish or something (doesn't look v Irish?) but googling comes up with NOTHING, so I'm wondering if it's yooneek. I asked how to pronounce it but she didn't reply. I just loves names so am just interested to know, it's driving me mad. I'm guessing 'Rom-een'.

Roman?

furryelephant · 07/07/2017 13:55

Could it be like the Dutch Romijn? Confusedif it was for a boy I'd guess an interesting spelling of Roman but I have no idea!

Mammysin · 07/07/2017 13:56

I can confirm it's not an Irish name ...

If this name is entirely original, you will be unlikely to embarrass yourself by mispronouncing it as you will certainly not encounter childr with this name.

If you ever meet this person in real life, they will surely tell you.

rowmin?

BendydickCuminsnatch · 07/07/2017 14:01

Madge I won't meet her!

Yes all I found was Romijn. She has a son called Merit and another boy and another girl, not sure of their names.

Romhin would be phonologically plausible as Irish (and pronounced rov-EEN or roh-VEEN) although I don't believe it's actually an Irish name.

Romihn though? Odd. And typo for Romijn would be odd too, isn't that a Dutch surname?

Birdsgottaf1y · 07/07/2017 15:07

Put it in Google Translate and it comes up with Clown.

There are a few Italian companies with this in its name.

It seems to be a Surname, so perhaps it's been used culturally as a Forename.

EssentialHummus · 07/07/2017 15:14

I'd go for Romaine as to pronounciation, but it's a guess.

PattyPenguin · 07/07/2017 20:49

I found a Mexican automotive manufacturing firm called Romihn, but the Romih part comes from Romi Hidroneumatica.

That's all I could find. My fiver's on it being a yooneek name, in which case Lord knows how it's pronounced.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 08/07/2017 09:03

Haha! Thanks all for researching etc... I think it must be Yooneek, or they have Dutch heritage and it's an obscure nod to that?

Well J is next to H on the keyboard, I often put a C or Z instead of a kiss (x) at the end of a txt, so perhaps it was a finger slip and they've decided to keep it.

Which is why we have some of the words/names we do, because someone wrote it down/heard/repeated it, wrong.
