It is very Harry Potter, but I met an old one today. Thoughts?

The fact you state you saw an old one today speaks volumes..
Leave it in the past where it belongs!!

FruitTwist2017 · 03/07/2017 16:55

What about as a middle name?

OP posts:
chowmeinchick · 03/07/2017 16:59

No😂

FruitTwist2017 · 03/07/2017 17:00

Why's it funny? Confused

Diddikins

Lovingitlovingit · 03/07/2017 17:01

Reeeeeally bad.

DeepPuddleHorse22 · 03/07/2017 17:02

Very HP to me and he was an awful character

DeepPuddleHorse22 · 03/07/2017 17:02

Plus his nn would be Dud

Lovingitlovingit · 03/07/2017 17:02

It makes me think of Dudley said in a jokey exaggerated Birmingham accent.

Bluntness100 · 03/07/2017 17:03

Dudley was not a good character in Harry Potter. You can't name your kid that.

WindwardCircle · 03/07/2017 17:03

I know a primary aged one, but I'm not keen. It just makes me think of Lenny Henry saying "I'm from Dudley" in a thick midlands accent.

FruitTwist2017 · 03/07/2017 17:04

Well, 10 were born last year Smile thank you for the replies!

Rowling uses rather obvious clues to the character in naming them.

Dudley didn't happen by mistake!

megletthesecond · 03/07/2017 17:11

Not as a first name. They'd be forever putting up with harry potter related teasing.

Middle name would be ok.

n0ne · 03/07/2017 17:27

Not being an HP fan, I only think of Dudley Moore. So I like it.

MammieBear · 03/07/2017 17:33

Each to their own at the end of the day, I quite like it as a name for a little boy. I Put it in the same category as Rufus, Monty, Bruno.

ems137 · 03/07/2017 18:28

I can only say it in a heavily exaggerated Birmingham accent too 😂

Wolfiefan · 03/07/2017 18:29

Me too. Dudley said in a Dudley accent!
Douglas instead?

LovePeaceAndHarmony · 03/07/2017 18:31

I like it.

Flumplet · 03/07/2017 18:40

Naow becuz yow hastuh saaaay it "Duhdlaaaay"

Or you do around here anyway.

Orangebird69 · 03/07/2017 18:42

I had a cat called Dudley. Best cat ever. I loved him so much. So no, I wouldn't call my child Dudley. But that's the only reason.

Wolfiefan · 03/07/2017 18:42

Flumplet Grin
That's exactly how I hear it! Wink

MyFavouriteName · 03/07/2017 18:44

Flumplet Grin perfect

KatherinaMinola · 03/07/2017 18:45

It makes me think of Dudley said in a jokey exaggerated Birmingham accent

That was exactly how I said it to myself as I opened this thread...

SuperBeagle · 03/07/2017 20:11

My beagle is Dudley 😁

He suits it perfectly, but I'd pity any child in 2017 having to bear it
