I am sorry for driving you and on this thread. I think it's my fourth post.

We have our girls name
Not a sausage for a boy.

Endless searching and asking.
Then yesterday I cam across Brett

I think it's growing on us, what is the general consensus?

SuperBeagle · 01/07/2017 11:49

NO.

So outdated. Put it with Shane, Wayne and Gary.

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 01/07/2017 11:52

Really? Is it that awful?
I love Brett Anderson form suede, and I thought it was quite nice.

Am I bonkers?

The only other ones we like are Heath and Aiden although this will change again

Gah! Whys it so bloody hard. We've used the only boy name we truly loved already!

BlueRumiAndSirsMom · 01/07/2017 11:54

Agree with PP so dated.

Alistair? Rowan? Conrad? Isaac?

Thought I'd just throw a few out there!

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 01/07/2017 11:56

Perhaps I just had a moment

Those names are lovely but we either can't use them due to one of us not liking / family or close friends.

We want see, thing ideally short and a little bit unusual. But not snit which apparently Brett is 😂😂😂

therootoftheroot · 01/07/2017 12:02

Oh! It's Adrian Mole!

Please tell me you have read Adrian Mole? His parents give him a big speech about what their ideal son would have been like and at the end when he is feeling all huffy, he says 'well, i am sorry i am such a disappointment to you!' and the reply ' It's our fault adrian-we should have called you Brett!'

Please don't call a baby itGrin

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 01/07/2017 12:09

I have read it.
Oh god that's hideous.

I need to metaphorically erase

Don't worry it won't be baby.

My husband's name is brett. I have to admit, I wasn't sure about it immediately, as always with names, it just suits him down to the ground. He is tall, dark & handsome with the biggest smile and always the life and soul of the party. I love the name now. I suppose my view is very biased though Grin

DownUdderer · 01/07/2017 12:16

Brett at my school were trouble makers!

@hoddtastic Jesus that's dreadful!

I love Bay and Flynn @bridgetreilly and @BlueRumiAndSirsMom

Will put those to one side.

I think Brett is fine Smile

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 01/07/2017 16:23

How about Bram OP ?

CosmoClock · 01/07/2017 16:34

No. I like the sound of it but agree with others that it's dated. A Brett sounds like an American who has never been abroad now. Sorry.

What about Red short for Redmond, or Richard Edward nn Red. I think it sounds the same, almost the same but with a more longevity.

Sophronia · 01/07/2017 16:36

Heath is much nicer.

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 01/07/2017 17:17

@Jooni hello, yes I remember you too!
think you are having a baby with one of "my" names? Am I right?

I really really like Corin, it sounds lovely with our other two children's names.

Thanks 😊

LucieLucie · 01/07/2017 17:33

Brett is okay for a man, it's a very strong, manly name.

It does strike me as being more of an American name though.

I don't really like it for a little baby to be honest but it's your baby your choice.

Jooni · 01/07/2017 17:34

Yes, I've had him now! Smile He's 2 weeks old and gorgeous (if I say so myself haha)

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 01/07/2017 17:45

@Jooni how lovely! Many congratulations.
Enjoy the snuggles x

Thanks everyone for all their comments and suggestions. Your honesty is appreciated!

I do still kind of like Brett but I can see what people, are saying about the outdated eighties vibe.
My friend texted me and said she once had a crush on someone that worked in Tandy electrical (showing my age here!) who was called Brett and he was a tool. Another great view 🙈

I've shown my husband these suggestions.

He loves Bay and Corin so we both really like two.
He really likes Flynn, Bram and Torin too.

We might have to find out on Monday so we can keep discussing.
I'm worn out with looking at names now and need to lie down in a dark room!

Jooni · 01/07/2017 18:21

Thank you!

Glad you like some suggestions. I love the ones you've mentioned so you can't really go wrong in my book Smile Good luck!

SocksRock · 01/07/2017 18:57

Couldn't get past the Adrian Mole connection for me....

squoosh · 02/07/2017 03:02

I love Adrian Mole SO much and I love everything that reminds of that misunderstood intellectual.

I wouldn't call a son Brett though. It would feel like a betrayal 😄
