Still trying to decide(I'm 40 weeks +) and I really would love to use an Irish name. DH was terrible at it and we're trying to find ones that are pronounced as they're spelt as much as possible. I'm leaning towards Finn or Dara now but trying to think what other ones could be used. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks muchnessSmile

Isn't Dara the female spelling? I know female Dara's and males are Darragh.

Open to correction though! (Have always wondered about the comedian Dara O'B)

No Dara is often used for boys.

Declan

My favourite is Eanna, but might be hard to pronounce correctly

I love how quickly these all came in! Thank you! My brain hasn't been working at full capacity at I could only think of fadá laden onesGrin

Are you Irish?

I'm not (but I am a Celt) and I'm really thinking of using Fergal for this baby (I'm 24w pregnant).

I don't know what the consensus is on using Irish names when not Irish (sorry for the thread detail OP)

Legend we are (part of the reason I'm Hmm at DHs inability to pronounce so many). I had a boss Fergal in my last job so I associate it with him, it's a lovely name though Smile

Honestly, I could do this all day, they're all so lovely!! How I wish I was more than half Irish so I could legitimately use Irish names for my (not yet in existence) babies!!

The Dara I know is short for Macdara. Adding and seconding Brendan, Rory, Kieran, Aiden, Cian and I have always loved Conn (but DH vetoed it :()

villainousbroodmare · 30/06/2017 17:48

I have a lovely little Finn and I'm really hoping that my sister who's due in 3 week' time doesn't use Dara. If she doesn't, I'll use it for a boy or a girl!
I also like Tadhg and Fergus.

@Alcea Darragh is the English spelling of Dara. It's one of the few Irish names where the Irish spelling is simpler. Either spelling is used for boys or girls.
