Edlen (or sometimes spelt Edlyn) for a girl. Apparently it means waterfall, which is lovely. But is it a bit of a mouthful? And would Edlen be mistaken for Eden written down? Thanks for any input Smile

I prefer it with a y. Agree it might get mistook for Eden if spelt with an e. I like it though v pretty.

I'm not really a fan, though I don't like Eden much either. Edlyn is less likely to be confused with Eden, but I think it looks like an American-style made-up "-lyn" name. Sorry.

Vintagegoth · 29/06/2017 17:12

I think it is a beautiful name. Be prepared for correcting people endlessly though. My daughter has a Gaelic name with an unusual spelling and we have had every spelling and pronunciation under the sun.

Mollie85 · 29/06/2017 17:15

Might it get misheard for Evelyn?

What a lovely meaning - never heard it. What's the etymology? (If you know it) Smile

Elbi · 29/06/2017 17:31

Would love the nn Eddie Smile Re etymology, apparently it's English - though babynamespaedia says it's pronounced EHDAHAHN Confused

Aw I haven't heard it before but really like it! Prefer the spelling Edlyn :)

MikeUniformMike · 29/06/2017 17:40

It's nice because it is so unusual. If I knew of 12 of them I might not be so keen. Eden is a case in point. First time I heard it I thought Oh ok, bit unusual but quite nice. Now it's getting popular I think No.

Probably prefer Edlen. Eddie is cute for a girl.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 29/06/2017 20:02

It's a bit like Evelyn, Gwendolyn and (showing my age) Eglantine, as in the character from Bedknobs and Broomsticks!

I kind of like it. Think I'd need to get used to it and then would probably fall in love with it.

SuperBeagle · 29/06/2017 20:42

Sounds like a Kiwi saying Adeline (with a lyn sound).

Elbi · 30/06/2017 07:26

Generally a more positive response than I expected! Though Jooni I'm concerned about that too...

Ohh I've thought of something else - might people think I had parents called Ed and Lyn and that I'd called the kid an awkward hybrid of those?
