Asa

I have a lovely baby boy named Asa but have been having serious doubts about his name.
We chose it because I loved the meaning - Healer - and it fitted with our other children's unusual names.
We look ages to name him and there were no other names we both really agreed on. I've never been 100% sure. My husband loves his name. But when I tell people his name I am getting a lot of blank looks and am thinking that I have saddled him with name that will be a burden - both in people's opinions of it and in them mispronouncing it as Ass-ah. It's meant to be Ay-Sah.

Should I change it? What do you think when you hear the name Asa?

I hear Ass-ah.. what about changing the spelling? Maybe Aisah (looks like a female name spelt my way though). How old is he?

I quite like it, but I would have assumed it was pronounced 'ass-ah'.

How about Acer? The pronunciation is more obvious to me (even though I know Asa is pronounced Ay-Sah)

I would think it's pronounced like ace-a. Not a name I've come across before (as a name), but did make me think of a particular colitis medication.

We have a relation called Asa, he is a lovely man, same spelling, it's unusual but not unheard of, I have known of two.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I'm wondering what the blank faces mean. If it's because it's not been heard as a name before or do they think it's an awful name!

Funnily enough we were talking about Asa Butterfield last night. It has never struck me as a weird name, although I agree not common. I like it! I'd pronounce it Ace-a btw.

I think it looks a little like a financial product, rather than a boys name. But it sounds lovely and lots of people have to constantly correct pronunciation of their name until people are used to it. Otherwise everyone would be Bob.

I think it's lovely , and the meaning is lovely too. People who have not heard of it are just showing their ignorance, I would have thought it was reasonably well known as a name.

I like it and I've never heard it pronounced Ass-ah, it's always Ay-sah.

Actually I checked and it's Issa on Homeland, which sounds the same but I think looks more like it sounds.

Asa Butterfield was my first hearing of the name when pregnant. maybe it's not as unusual as I thought.

I think of our friend Acer who was an Olympian and is much missed. Clever and determined. Resilient and resourceful.

I think Acer spelling is more obvious. I know Asa is said the same but I have to remember to remember IYSWIM.

I love the name. I went to primary school with an Asa and my nephew (in law) is called Asa and he is a lovely cheeky chap.

My other kids names are quite unusual so sure they would out me!
