Adeline.. what is everyone thinking? Would it be shortened to Addy? Not keen on the short version but love the full name.

Thanks for your insight!

When choosing a name you have to like every version, because You can't control without sounding like a stuffy crank what people call her and certainly not what she calls herself

MelinaMercury · 26/06/2017 22:21

I'm not keen but it's not horrid.

I know two, one is a Polish woman in her 90's who goes by Adele and a teenager who goes by either Adeline or Lainey depending on company although this has been a family nickname that has stuck.

Sophronia · 26/06/2017 22:22

I like it.

SuperBeagle · 26/06/2017 22:23

I like it, but I do think it'll be shortened to Addie.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 26/06/2017 22:26

How are you wanting it pronounced? "Ad-elle-een" or "Ad-elle-ine"?

Because "Ad-elle-een" was how I pronounced it after reading the thread title.

user1497479427 · 26/06/2017 22:36

It would be Ad-el-ine because I'm not French lol. Thanks for your input everyone.. will be giving the shortened version some serious thought.. it might grow on me!

I'm not French either Grin I'm English but my first pronunciation was "Ad-elle-een".

OwlsinTowls · 26/06/2017 23:30

Love it, but yes I think she would get Addy/Addie - I like the nn, so no issue for me. She may like to call herself Adele or Ada.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 27/06/2017 09:58

❤️ Adeline, and Addie as a nick name.

Unadon · 27/06/2017 13:39

I like it. I'm not sure why it's a problem if you don't like the shortened version though. A mate of mine from uni hates Maddie, and whenever someone new calls her that she just gently tells them she prefers to go by Madeleine and people will usually follow.

Scrumpernickel · 27/06/2017 13:51

I'm not really a fan of those frilly Victorian names.

grasspigeons · 27/06/2017 14:05

A person can insist they are called Madeleine but their mum can't insist they are if they are an adult and want to be called Mads so I would consider the more obvious nicknames

It's a nice name and Ada or Addie are fine.

MammieBear · 27/06/2017 14:50

I think it's lovely old fashioned and she will have her own lullaby (Google it) I think you could have Ada as a nickname but why shorten it it's lovely in its full form.

Aedie4 · 27/06/2017 18:44

I like it and I like Addie, whilst I agree you can't dictate what someone refers to themselves as,I think if from the start you shortened it to a nickname you prefer (such as Ada maybe) then that is more likely to be the name they connect with/see themselves as (in my opinion) x
