Due in January so it's a surprise, do you like these names?

I live in quite a working class area so worried they might be bullied, although hopefully sould be moving before starting school.

And what else might I like?

Flora is nice. Wilfred is very drippy. Both together are really making a statement. I would expect two very old-fashioned, possibly slightly bewildered children.

Oliversmumsarmy · 26/06/2017 08:54

Wilfred sounds awful, definitely not. It is not one of those old fashioned names that has become cool. Love Arthur know a few Archies, Freddies and Evies.

What about just calling him Will. Wilfred will probably get shortened anyway to Will but he won be saddled with the name Wilfred when addressed by his full name.

Flora you might just get away with. I think Charlotte sounds so much better.

Charlotte and Will? Or Flora and Wilfred?

whifflesqueak · 26/06/2017 08:58

I have a Wilfred. I love it, obviously.

He's named after his great uncle and actually I think it is an old fashioned name that is enjoying a revival because I've met a few his age.

I'm slightly lesss sold on Flora. It reminds me of margarine (hideous stuff) and microbes.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/06/2017 09:00

Love Charlotte, and prefer Frederick (Freddie).

sonlypuppyfat · 26/06/2017 09:06

Wilfred is beyond awful it really is

ifigoup · 26/06/2017 09:10

I used not to like Wilfred, but now I know two little Wilfreds and a Wilfrid, and it's grown on me.

I've always liked Flora, and I don't think the margarine objection is insurmountable.

countycouncil · 26/06/2017 10:14

I think they're both too old fashioned and not cool old fashioned.

Flora is much more interesting than Charlotte IMO. Charlotte is one of those Thomas/James/Lucy type names for me, very very boring. Whereas I prefer unusual but perfectly usable and normal names.

Wilfred for me is a bit Mabel, if I can imagine anyone in Hackney with a hipster beard naming their child this, it has to come off the list.

MackerelOfFact · 26/06/2017 11:27

Wilfred is OK, but I LOVE Wilbur. Much nicer IMO.

I do like Flora but I struggle to get past the margarine. Fleur is lovely too.

MitzyLeFrouf · 26/06/2017 11:31

Flora is nice but I’d be hard pushed to think of a boys’ name I dislike more than Wilfred. I think it’s awful.

golfmonkey · 26/06/2017 11:54

Not my personal taste, but think it'd be fine to use either. I know a baby Wilbur- weird when you hear it at first then totally normal. If you're really bothered about what other people think then Wilbur might be more acceptable but not William? I think flora is nice actually - don't think it sounds that old fashioned but it would if she had a brother Wilfred if you know what I mean.

figandvanillacandle · 26/06/2017 12:07

Haha I'd prefer Fred as a nickname rather than will, I think.

Flora - yeah, margarine but I'm not bothered about that.

I love Wilfred because of Wilfred Owen's poetry.

I liked Nicholas a lot but a good friend is naming her DS that.

Wilfred is okay, though I don't particularly love it. I feel like I might be a bit of an oddity here, and perhaps it's due to constantly listening to my mate talk about his work, but Flora just reminds me of "gut flora". Confused

silkpyjamasallday · 26/06/2017 13:49

Love them both, and go together well as a pair too. I used to sit next to a Wilfred at primary school to help him with spelling as he was dyslexic, he was such a lovely boy. Flora was the name of my bus companion at secondary, also a lovely person. I don't think they stick out as particularly bully-able names. You can always shorten Wilfred to will but I really don't think it's a weird name and William as an alternative is boring.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 26/06/2017 14:38

Really love them both. I know a very cool Wilfred and I love that you can nn to Will, Fred/Freddy or Wilf.

Don't see why you would get bullied with either name although the kids in my ds's gym class are called Ralph, Percy, Fabian etc so I may not be the best judge!
