I think Mackenzie is okay (my grandfather was Kenneth) Smile but I don't think it suits him. Also, I met a Kenzie-Lee, not that long ago, so it put me off a bit.

Just need some ideas! I like Finn and Theodore.

Max?

Boopboopboop · 25/06/2017 19:52

It reminds me a bit of Gareth from the office

TheVanguardSix · 25/06/2017 19:53

I'm very partial to Theodore (that's my teenage son's name). So you get a huge thumbs up from me for that name!

I know one Mackenzie (a girl) and the name works. At first, years ago when she was born and my friend announced the name, I was a bit Confused but now it's totally 'her'. For a boy, it could work very well. It's a nice name.

I really like the name Ansel (after Ansel Adams, the iconic photographer).

bridgetreilly · 25/06/2017 19:58

I really like Mack, either as a name in its own right, or as a shortened form.

Other suggestions:
Gus
Ivor
Bay
Jake

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/06/2017 20:13

Mack is very cool ! 👍

SuperBeagle · 25/06/2017 20:14

Mackenzie is fairly popular for girls where I live.

I like just Mack.

Whatslovegottodo · 25/06/2017 20:15

Mackenzie is a fab name for a boy.

RideOn · 25/06/2017 20:20

Cormac
Finbarr

Joshua
Logan

Sophronia · 25/06/2017 20:51

I quite like Mackenzie for a boy.

Topseyt · 25/06/2017 21:15

I think it is OK. It has a contemporary feel without being too off the wall.

I quite like Mack / Mac as a shortened version.

FreeNiki · 25/06/2017 22:16

Mack is awesome. So yeah why not mackenzie.

QuantamBaby · 25/06/2017 22:20

I think that McKenzie is a girls name and would hesitate before giving it to a boy. How about Cameron?

HayleysStuff · 25/06/2017 22:21

@QuantamBaby what? Mackenzie is a boys name and means son of Kenneth.

QuantamBaby · 25/06/2017 22:26

Maybe it did, but I know 4 McKenzies here in the UK and they are all girls under the age of 10.

IStoleThisUsername · 25/06/2017 22:28

It's ok but I would say it's more of a girls name nowadays.
Jk Rowling has a daughter called Mackenzie.

Theodore is 20X better

ErrolTheDragon · 25/06/2017 22:40

Mackenzie nn Mack is fine for a boy (Mc/mac names are a bit odd for girls, despite their current popularity ) - but some of RideOn's list look good in addition to Finn (but presumably your DH has rejected that?)

Salmotrutta · 25/06/2017 23:52

I don't understand naming girls MacKenzie.

The "Mac" part is Gaelic for "Son of" so why on earth would it be suitable for a girl?

But to answer your question OP - I just think of it as a very "surnamey" surname that doesn't transfer well as a first name.

EchidnasPhone · 25/06/2017 23:59

I like the suggestion of Cormack...

usernamenonumber · 26/06/2017 00:24

Mackenzie is a surname and should stay a surname.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 26/06/2017 00:34

I also know a girl called Mackenzie (kenzie) so to me it's a girls name. I like it though.
I love Theodore and Cormac.

newbian · 26/06/2017 02:36

Salmotrutta plenty of little girls with "-son" names too! Allison, Madison, Emerson.

I've never heard Mackenzie as a boy's name to be honest.

Bubblesoup · 26/06/2017 14:51

Just be aware that if you change it to Theodore then he might be one of many Teddy's/ Theos as it is soooo popular!

Salmotrutta · 27/06/2017 19:46

newbian - but Madison and Emerson are surnames originally anyway and very much "new" names for girls. I wouldn't name a girl either of those if I'm honest.

Alison however is a very old French name.

Nifflerbowtruckle · 27/06/2017 20:00

Macklan

Chocolatecake12 · 27/06/2017 21:37

I know a boy Mackenzie
No girl mackenzies in either of my sons schools as far as I'm aware.
