How many?

I have a 16 week old daughter called Evelyn, we named her after her great great grandma and great grandma (both still with us) however, knowing no babies called this myself I didn't think it was that popular...now on all these sites I keep seeing people saying they know loads and it's really common?? Makes me feel a bit disappointed. We never call her Evie-in fact we call her something different for short so don't really mind if Evie is common. How many baby Evelyn's do you know? I haven't met another one yet in our area. TIA.

One, and she's nearly 1.

Redpramlady · 25/06/2017 14:17

Two. Notthant common yet beautiful and great for an adult and child imo

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 25/06/2017 14:19

None. And I know (and come in contact with), an awful lot of babies! I know a few Evie's and Ava's (various spellings).

UnbornMortificado · 25/06/2017 14:23

None, im northern if that makes a difference.

Muumi3 · 25/06/2017 14:37

No Evelyn's but 3 Eve/Evie, aged 25, 6 and 1

Unadon · 25/06/2017 15:17

I know an Évelyne, aged 4. Have never seen a kid named Evelyn though!

Aedie4 · 25/06/2017 16:02

Thank you all! That makes me feel better about our choice! I pretty much always refer to her as the shorter version but if she chooses to use Evelyn in school I don't really want her to be one of five x

I don't know any. It is a lovely name

UnbornMortificado · 25/06/2017 16:09

It is a lovely name, there's none in DD's pre-school and I've never seen one on my FB.

I get the worry, I picked Matilda (ex-p's German grans name) just before it surged in popularity. I also have a Charlotte.

My SIL had the right idea she picked completely "unique" names I can't even say them as neither is in the top 100 so would completely out me.

Forgot to say congratulations on your DD Flowers

HeteronormativeHaybales · 25/06/2017 16:14

I think Evelyn is beginning to have a bit of a moment, but not to a Jack/Evie/Olivia extent - sort of on an Imogen level, whereby you may get two in a class but not 5.

It's a lovely name. Congratulations. :)

This website summarises the most recent (2015) ONS data on first names in the U.K. You can look at the list and see how many Evelyns there were that year. If you add up all the Evies, Eves, Evas and Evelyns you'll get an idea of how popular it is in comparison to other names etc. www.britishbabynames.com/blog/top-1000-names-in-england-and-wales-2015.html

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 25/06/2017 16:32

My daughter is Evelyn - she's 13. She mostly uses Ally as a nickname.

The name was outside the top 100 when she was born, but has become more popular since.

It's definitely not as popular as Eva/Evie though.

Flamingoprincess1212 · 25/06/2017 16:33

I know an Evelyn, aged 62, and her GD Evie aged 4, an Evangeline who is 36, and another Evie who's a teen. One per generation, I work in secondary Ed, (moving to primary soon as I'm in a 3-18 academy!) so I meet a lot of parents and children, it's not that common at all x

MoonHare · 25/06/2017 16:42

Evelyn is Dd2 middle name after my grandma. I only know one Evelyn and she is 11.

DecisionsDecisions33 · 25/06/2017 16:45

Sorry but loads. I'd guess about 15. Know 3 born last year alone of family.

Every group of girls 0-15 has an Evie, Olivia, Lily, Isabella.

They're the new Becky, Kate, Sarah and jo (80s kids comparison).

The Evie's are usually Evie b or Evie bb etc

DecisionsDecisions33 · 25/06/2017 16:46

This is london

Just remembered also due to be godmother to an Evie (Evelyn) may in August. Slipped my
Mind

Aedie4 · 25/06/2017 16:53

I don't mind about Evies as that's not her name-nor is it her given 'nickname' I was asking specifically about Evelyns. But thank you :)

I know 1 Evelyn, who's about 3.5yrs old.

It's not that common. 28th most popular girls name in 2015. According to the darkgreener website, about 0.25% of all babies in 2015 were called Evelyn. That's only 2 to 3 Evelyn's in every 1000 babies born in 2015. It's probably not going to be all that more popular for babies born in 2016 or 2017.

Out if interest was Ally a nickname you picked or one she came up with on her own? :)

One definite Evelyn. Also around 15 Evies who might be shortened from Evelyn, I don't know. There are always hundreds in the toddler playground.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 25/06/2017 19:30

We didn't decide to use Ally as a nn - she picked it herself. We called her Evelyn when she was younger (actually, these days I tend to call her Evelina or Lina - poor child has to cope with multiple names)!

reuset · 25/06/2017 19:41

I know of two.

In stat terms it's currently in top 30, and on the rise.

Aedie4 · 25/06/2017 19:49

Yes currently 28 but wouldn't be surprised if its higher when 2016 stats come out. I can cope with the 20's though as in real terms that isn't that many (as pp stated like 2-3 out of 1000) thanks all for your responses-makes me feel better knowing you haven't all said loads of Evelyns (Evie doesn't count for me lol) xx

Decaffstilltastesweird · 25/06/2017 19:52

I know two Evelyns, both toddlers. I'd say it is popular, but not like Amelia / Oliver / Isabelle. I know more Florences.

I'm in the Home Counties.
