Is it okay? We absolutely hate Frederick but think Freddy/Freddie is a bit too twee?

How about Alfred on bc?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/06/2017 20:21

Can't see why not.

Jooni · 23/06/2017 21:12

I know a couple of just Freds. It's fine.

Nonameyet1 · 23/06/2017 21:40

Just Fred is great.

Sophronia · 23/06/2017 22:23

Wilfred or Alfred nn Fred?

Enidblyton1 · 23/06/2017 22:29

Don't see why not.

If you think Freddy is a bit twee, will you mind if people call him that? Very short names often get lengthened so Fred may well become Freddy.

grufallosfriend · 24/06/2017 07:31

I wouldn't choose Fred if I hated Frederick Confused

SuperBeagle · 24/06/2017 10:59

Wilfred or Alfred...

But people will assume he's Frederick regardless.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 24/06/2017 12:28

I know a Fred who is just Fred. I don't like him very much, but that isn't because of his name .

I'm not mad about it as a name tbh, but there's nothing wrong with it per se. I do love Wilfred, which could be shortened to Fred / Freddie / Wilf / Wilfie.

daisypond · 24/06/2017 17:50

I wouldn't. I'd put whatever longer form you prefer on the BC. My name is a shorter form (very dated now but popular at the time) of a longer name, and I've always hated that I "can't" lengthen it, whereas if I'd been given the longer name I could have chosen to shorten it. My parents thought the short name was nicer, but the longer name would have stood the test of time much better.

I have a Frederick. He gets the full name from my DM, who loves it, Freddie from DH, Fred fom everyone else. He also has a nickname which is generally used by the family interchangeably with his actual name. To me, Fred is not a diminutive for Wilfred (that'd be Wilf) or Alfred (that'd be Alf or Alfie). I think people will assume your Fred is a Frederick.

Laubloom31 · 25/06/2017 13:16

I have a Freddy known as Freddy xx

Unadon · 25/06/2017 13:24

I personally wouldn't, but if you really, really like Fred, and really, really hate Frederick/Wilfred/Alfred, then sure.
