Or any suggestions along similar lines?

It needs to be fairly easy to pronounce in Spain where we live, although not necessarily a Spanish name (as we aren't!)

Isla is a bit of a nono as it's an actual spanish word but it is pretty.

Sister to Bertie (Albert) which is why she can't be Alba which I love!

MadameJosephine · 23/06/2017 22:32

Madeleine is beautiful.

How about Annabelle, Melissa, Mirabelle or Rosanna?

longestlurkerever · 23/06/2017 22:34

I really like Isla and randomly love Ines and if i could have fabricated a Apakish connection would have used it

longestlurkerever · 23/06/2017 22:34

Spanish connection, even

Donostia · 23/06/2017 22:34

I was hoping for a consensus!! It's realistically between Madeline and Harriet I think.

Madeline to rhyme with gin rather than wine! Gin Otherwise the spanish will add an extra syllable. Plus Tennyson and Keats spell it that way, Madeleine is the French spelling although is more popular in England than the English way of spelling it.

Out of those two i vote Harriet. Prefer Isla though.

OP,

Ooh...best of luck for later...how exciting that you'll be meeting your DD soon if you're comfortable doing so, please post pic for us to aah over, once you've recovered enough Flowers

Madeline. Gorgeous name.

Possible alternative?:
Lara - (Spanish meaning is 'protection')

Works very well internationally. Instinctively pronounced.
I also know a 4 yr old one, whose Spanish DM says it's quite popular back in her home town (Seville area).

CaptainWarbeck · 24/06/2017 03:55

I like Isabel and Harriet. Lots of cute nicknames for Isabel and it's pretty without being too overused.

Harriet is lovely too, bit of a less frilly name than the others.

Ham69 · 24/06/2017 07:31

Harriet. Love it.

blahthisistoohard · 24/06/2017 07:46

Isla.

Harriet over Madeline

ColourfulOrangex · 24/06/2017 09:02

Madeline is lovely, not keen on Harriet

17caterpillars1mouse · 24/06/2017 09:59

Madeline or Isobel

Please not another Isla!

GoldenWorld · 24/06/2017 10:19

Madeline is actually pronounced to rhyme with wine in The Eve of St. Agnes by Keats.

Having said that, I have a relative called Madeline to rhyme with gin and I don't think she gets many people pronounce it the other way. I think Madeline Harriet is lovely.

Epipgab · 24/06/2017 11:53

I like Isobel best.

I like Isabel and Madeline the most. I don't like Harriet at all. Isla is OK.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 24/06/2017 12:34

Harriet or Madeline.

Unadon · 25/06/2017 02:38

Madeleine > Harriet > Madeline

GinSwigmore · 25/06/2017 02:53

Isla is my favourite but I also like Isabel and it might be easier for her living in Spain (also like Isa as a nn)

Donostia · 29/06/2017 17:43

Thank you all! We've gone for Madeline Harriet Surname. She's just lovely! xxx
