I'm 29 weeks pregnant and me and DH can't agree on any names. Its a boy, we have a DS called Murray who's 2.5 already. We've gone through every name imaginable and come up with nothing.

I like Finn and we both like Josh but not the longer versions of Finley or Joshua and worry they'll be asked constantly "is that short for...." we both liked Logan originally not now have decided against it.

Please help; possible middle name is Fraser as its a family name, we are both born and live in Scotland but would rather he didn't go to school with dozens of boys of the same name so nothing top 10

My current favourites, all with a Scottish theme, are Rory, Brodie and Lachlan. All go well with Murray too!

I think just Finn is great, I wouldn't assume it was short for Finley in the way that I would assume that Josh is short for Joshua.

Nelson

Finn is a valid full name anyway (as in Finn McCool, a legendary character who must have been around for centuries).

❤️ Fraser.

Maybe josh could be short for joseph? Not typical i know. Or you could just call him josh. My nephew is just josh.

SumAndSubstance · 21/06/2017 22:29

If I had any Scottish heritage at all, I would love to use Hamish. Otherwise, I agree that Finn is perfectly okay as a name in itself whereas I would assume that Josh was short for Joshua.

A friend of mine has a Finn. I like it. Is it Scottish?

MrsS82 · 22/06/2017 23:35

Thanks for all the suggestions. We've gone through most of them already, my husband had always liked Hamish but I don't like it.

Finn isn't Scottish no, it's Scandinavian which my MIL is so kind of fits

We've both started making lists and I've always liked Elliott which I had put to the back of my mind for some reason. Thoughts on Murray and Elliott as siblings names?

Murray and Elliott go well together.

What about:
Jamie
Andrew
Redmond
Gregor
Bruce

MrsS82 · 22/06/2017 23:52

I like Jamie but worry about the connotations of having a Murray and a Jamie as were Scottish and tennis fans but I worry too much in general. We're already asked if DS1 was named after Andy which he wasn't.

Finn is also an Irish name, so you have the Celtic link too. Finn McCool is an Irish legend from the 3rd century or something. Probably predates Finley, though I don't know. It's definitely fine on its own. I actually prefer it to Finlay/ Finley.

I adore Scottish names generally though. My DH won't let me Angry, or I'd have a Hamish, Gregor, or any of the below, in a heartbeat. Has anyone suggested these yet?

Innes
Struan
Gregor
Keir

Composteleana · 23/06/2017 08:57

Murray and Elliott sound fine together.

I like:
Blake
Campbell
Evan
Ross
Lachlan
Owen
Ennis
Torin (Irish I think?)

The Finn I know is Fintan?
