Pronounced Fee-unn but quickly run the first and second vowel sounds together.

TheFallenMadonna · 21/06/2017 18:27

SpecialStains. Popular or never heard of it?

chipmonkey · 21/06/2017 18:29

It's like fyun pronounced all in one syllable. Love it.

dexterson · 21/06/2017 18:33

Love it dexterson

I had never heard of the name until I lived in Ireland. It is a very popular name over there.

SpecialStains · 21/06/2017 18:38

I think it's really nice. Those two names sound good together. Good luck with the baby! Baby boys are awesome. 😊

@thefallenmadonna The name Finn is very popular round here - I wasn't sure if it was pronounced the same. Other posters have said it isn't. I'm happy to learn new things. Smile

glitterglitters · 21/06/2017 18:38

I prefer it spelt Ffion x

glitterglitters · 21/06/2017 18:39

Oops
Just rtft

Didn't realise it was a boys name. Apologies! Blush

Oliack1417 · 21/06/2017 18:40

I have a boy cousin called Fionn, Irish. I like it.

SaintEyning · 21/06/2017 19:45

Great Irish male name. Crack on, Fionn, as we said at school Wink

Sophronia · 21/06/2017 20:01

Lovely name.

forfuckssakenet · 21/06/2017 20:05

Knew one. Pronounced fee on. He was very nice and very posh.

Kittykatmacbill · 21/06/2017 20:44

I worked with one, he had an outward facing job iyswim. He gave up on calling himself fionn, just called himself Jon as he got so fed up with multiple spellings of it over the phone...

harderandharder2breathe · 21/06/2017 20:53

I live in Wales so my first thought was the girls name Ffion.

So I wouldn't use Fionn for a boy in Wales as that would be a very common first thought I think.

DramaAlpaca · 21/06/2017 22:16

Fionn is a really lovely Irish boys' name. The nearest I can get to writing how it's pronounced is F-yunn, said as one short syllable. It's a great name and not common, even in Ireland.

Jooni · 22/06/2017 07:05

Lovely name. And Ffion and Fiona aren't common names at the moment so I don't think there will be too much confusion with either of those if you're not in Wales.

Boopboopboop · 22/06/2017 07:15

Love fionn
As in fee-yun
As in for a boy

Not sure why people are getting confused thinking it's a girls name or pronounced Finn?

longestlurkerever · 22/06/2017 07:26

I know one living in London. it is the type of name people will mispronounce even after they've been corrected which is a bit of a pita. He says Fyun but lots of people call him Fee-on.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 22/06/2017 07:30

Great name. I know a Fionn with a brother Torin. No ones ever had problems with the names once they've met them.

dementedma · 22/06/2017 07:33

Ooh Torin is lovely

implantsandaDyson · 22/06/2017 11:07

Fionn is a lovely name, my primary school aged kids go to school with a few. I always think it's lovely when they say his name out loud.

Mrsknackered · 22/06/2017 11:09

This is the only way that I like Fionn.

I hate Finn/Fin/Finley etc.
