David. It's so little used these days that it's original, whereas there'll probably be lots of little Dexters wherever you go.

Just FYI, David was 43rd in the ONS list last year, and Dexter was 79th. In no year on record has Dexter ever been more popular than David.

David

Sophronia · 19/06/2017 17:32

Definitely David!!

Scrumpernickel · 19/06/2017 17:43

I actually know four Davids under the age of three. So I'm going to say Dexter.

MacarenaFerreiro · 19/06/2017 18:10

David - so classic. I know a few small Dexters.

FartnissEverbeans · 19/06/2017 19:12

I know two little Davids. I was really surprised when I heard their names - both named after their dads.

I think Dexter is cool

ImpetuousBride · 19/06/2017 19:30

Sorry but neither is original - Dexter I will always associate with the TV show, David is just plain boring.

Epipgab · 19/06/2017 20:34

David, definitely. A classic name which is due a comeback. I've only met one little David.

I dislike Dexter and the trend for surnames ending in "er" as first names.

SuperBeagle · 19/06/2017 20:35

David

Great meaning, classic, strong, masculine, uncommon at the moment, and 'Davy' is sweet.

Don't like Dexter

chinlop · 19/06/2017 20:52

It's strange that David seems so uncommon isn't it? I checked darkgreener and its lowest rank in the last 20 years was number 67, back in 2007. It's been around number 50 for the last 10 years. I don't know anyone calling their kids david, but lots of people still are!

BadToTheBone · 19/06/2017 21:05

I prefer David, but disagree it's rarely used, I know several all under 16.

Lemondrop99 · 19/06/2017 21:15

Love Dexter

babynelly2010 · 19/06/2017 21:38

David
When I think of Dexter I think of a serial murderer that works in a police crime lab.Hmm

greendes · 19/06/2017 21:38

@Epipgab due a comeback? It's in the top 50

buttercup54321 · 19/06/2017 22:58

David

Clearly that's true at the national level, but I can assure you that in my neck of the woods there are no Davids and names that might once have been considered 'out there' like Arlo, Otto and Dexter have taken its place. Local trends don't always follow the national picture.

Epipgab · 19/06/2017 23:21

greendes fair point. I think Maud is right, it must be a regional thing.
