Thanks Smile strangely, we aren't as keen on Alice!

Alison is a great name.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/06/2017 21:55

❤️ Alison.

MyNewBearTotoro · 17/06/2017 21:57

I'm not keen on Alison but Allie is a very cute nickname! If you like Alison go for it :)

Maybe some alternatives if you're not sure which could still have Allie as a nickname:

Alexandra
Allissa
Alexa
Alana
Alexia
Alaina
Alisha

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 17/06/2017 21:58

I like it. DS would have been Alison if he had been a she.

memyselfandaye · 17/06/2017 22:04

I don't like Alison, as a child of the 70's it's just so dated and up there with names such as

Sharon
Tracey
Vicky
Joanne
Debbie
Clare

Dull and dated.

Epipgab · 17/06/2017 22:07

It's a lovely name and would be quite unusual and interesting now.

Breezy1985 · 17/06/2017 22:11

My 12yoDD is insistent that if she ever has a DD she'll be called Alison.. I went to school with loads of them so don't particularly love it.

DramaAlpaca · 17/06/2017 22:17

I like it very much.

It's a very old name that dates back to the Middle Ages and was revived in the 20th century. I think it's due another revival.

Sophronia · 17/06/2017 22:23

I like it! It would be unusual nowadays.

Hothothotsummer · 17/06/2017 22:35

Don't like it at all. Too 70s.

SuperBeagle · 17/06/2017 22:36

Allie is very sweet, but I don't like Alison at all. To me, it's very outdated still.

Allie could be short for Alice or Alexandra though, and I prefer those.

buttercup54321 · 17/06/2017 23:43

Alison is too 1970s. Don't like Ally. Although Alexandra could have nn of Ally.

JadziaSnax · 17/06/2017 23:46

Great name. I'm biased though as my name is Alison.

Buntysoven · 18/06/2017 01:01

I really like it.

abbey44 · 18/06/2017 01:06

I really like it too - I think it's timeless. I am a bit biased, though, as it's my name as well Grin, but I'm usually shortened to 'Ali'.

I'm not 1970's, by the way. And neither is my great aunt, also an Alison.

Scrumpernickel · 18/06/2017 01:18

Love the name Alison and much prefer it to Alice which seems a bit meeker in comparison. Ali/Allie is a lovely shortening.

Scrumpernickel · 18/06/2017 01:21

Oh and I love the song Alison by Elvis Costello, even though it's a bit sad. Always good to have a good namesake song!

ScarletSienna · 18/06/2017 02:21

I think it may just be ripe for a comeback!

workshyfop · 18/06/2017 09:39

Like it. Good strong name.

rainsbow · 18/06/2017 09:42

Alyssa
Alicia

howthelightgetsin · 18/06/2017 09:48

A close family member (60s actually not 70s) is an Alison and always says how she hates her name because it's so of the time - she knows a lot of Alisons the same age.
There won't be many with that name these days though and actually I quite like it.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 18/06/2017 09:52

Not keen on Alison, or Alice either.

I'd go Allie short for Alexandra.

onesilencetoofar · 18/06/2017 10:08

My best friend and sister in law are both Allysons I like it.

MineKraftCheese · 18/06/2017 11:45

My gorgeous late granny (mum's mum) was Alison and she was the epitome of glamour to me as a little girl.

Love it.

MammieBear · 18/06/2017 15:02

Good name, makes me think of the Elvis Costello song - Allison Smile
