I love, but interested in others opinions.

If you're not keen, what do you like that has a similar vibe.

I really loved ottilie, but DH wouldn't let me have it. Nor my other favourites Flora or Sylvie. We settled on penelope in the end, though I would have rathered persephone.

ToDuk · 16/06/2017 06:29

Not keen but then I'm a teacher of the deaf and it sounds to me like something ear related! I guess most people won't make that connection Grin

ScarletSienna · 16/06/2017 06:30

I love it! I've only ever known one child called it yet it has a familiar feel. DH vetoed it.

Blossomandsixx · 16/06/2017 06:33

Love! My oh also vetod it!

BuzzKillington · 16/06/2017 06:37

Love it! Quite popular though, so that would put me off a bit.

WanderingTrolley1 · 16/06/2017 06:39

Awful.

TerfwithaNerf · 16/06/2017 06:41

Fine in French, Oh-til-ee. Sounds soft and pretty.

But it sounds like Otter-ly in most UK accents which I can't bear.

thefamilynaom · 16/06/2017 06:41

I never know how to pronounce it Blush I would guess ot-illie but haven't met any irl to confirm

thefamilynaom · 16/06/2017 06:42

X post with terf thanks!

17caterpillars1mouse · 16/06/2017 07:25

It's not really popular it's 411th so still relatively rare.

I love it. Have done for years. DH said no though as it reminded him of Attila and the guns :(

SleepFreeZone · 16/06/2017 07:26

I actually really loathe it.

Susiethetortoiseshellcat · 16/06/2017 07:28

I'm not keen as just don't like the sound it makes. Names which I think have a similar vibe: Delilah, Cressida, Lavinia, Lois.

DoorKnee · 16/06/2017 07:29

I think it's lovely

LynetteScavo · 16/06/2017 07:50

I live it, and just after we named DD I asked DH why we hadn't considered it.

DH said "utterly bitterly".

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 16/06/2017 07:50

Sorry, no.

bruffin · 16/06/2017 07:53

Very pretty

grufallosfriend · 16/06/2017 08:35

Pretty and not widely used, great choice!

Lemondrop99 · 16/06/2017 09:23

I really like it. DH didn't

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 16/06/2017 09:30

The Utterly Otterlies was a childhood book the DC loved so I can't hear the name without thinking about it. Not a negative association as such. I've only met one Ottilie. Similar names (to me): Cicely, Lettice, Christabel.

BlondeGinger · 16/06/2017 09:31

I love it

SuperBeagle · 16/06/2017 10:01

I don't like it.

Reminds me of otters

GlintingFuriously · 16/06/2017 10:08

I like it, very pretty, but agree with PP that might not sound so appealing in some regional accents.

And it's spelt Ottilie, 2 Ts and one L.

Possible alternatives: Elodie / Amelie / Delphine / Cecily / Briony ?

n0ne · 16/06/2017 11:44

Love it. We have some friends with a little Ottilie, otherwise I'd use it myself if DC2 turns out to be a girl.

blahthisistoohard · 16/06/2017 11:45

Went through a stage of loving this name but DH said he couldn't say it without thinking of Otters, and then my Mum said 'urgh that's awful' so that did it for me.

Only 411 in the UK, but it was in the top 10 for Daily Telegraph announcements- that from that what you will!

MrsFogi · 16/06/2017 11:48

I think the name is marmite - I used to hate it and now love it. I believe the spelling is either Ottilie (English) or Othilie (French).
