My favourites from your girls list are Esther and Rosanna, and from your boys list, Francis and Gabriel. Also love Caspar!

Sleeperandthespindle · 26/05/2017 22:33

Bridget (Bridie), Esther, Patrick.
Makes me broody for three more!

needsomeopinions · 26/05/2017 22:37

Please don't call your baby Bridget!!!

I like Harriet, Rosanna and Nancy.

For boys I like Gabriel.

Juliet a lovely name!

minipie · 26/05/2017 22:38

Sylvia, Serena, Rosanna, Juliet are all pretty. Wouldn't choose Esther, I find it ugly sounding. Others are fine.

for boys I'd pick Christopher (Kit NOT Christie - ugh), Gabriel, Lawrence or Patrick (Paddy). But the others are ok.

Favourites: Rosanna & Arianna, Patrick & Peter

Least favourites: Nancy & Esther, Caspar & Francis

29Palms · 27/05/2017 00:15

I like all the boy's names except Peter.

Of the girl's names, I like Nancy, Serena and Rosanna best.

Quite like Sylvia and Esther.

Arianna is a bit overdone.

Really dislike Bridget and Harriet. I find them awkward-sounding names.

Ipushedmygrannyaffabus · 27/05/2017 01:25

Adore Juliet way above any other name on your list!
Nancy is lovely
Esther & Arianna are ok

LOVE Lawrence
Gabriel is cool
Not keen on any of the others

Rockaby · 27/05/2017 06:42

Thanks for all the responses and suggestions. Some of them I love and are on my longer list, but DH has vetoed a lot of them. Others I hadn't thought of yet, so I've got some more to add to my lists!

I'm surprised at the stein dislike to Bridget (ok only by maybe two posters). It's fairly common in Ireland. Definitely not "noooooooo" territory Grin.

Ditto Christie as a pet name! Fairly well used where I'm from.

Bridget - love! It's an underused classic
Sylvia - I want to like it as it's my style but I just can't seem to
Esther - really like. Has a classy feel about it
Nancy - not a fan sorry
Harriet - I like it, I love Hattie
Serena - nice and I like Sera
Rosanna - prefer Rosalind or Rosalin or even Rosa
Arianna - dislike

Christopher - love with nn Kit or Topher
Francis - love
Gabriel - love
Peter - nice but not a favourite
Patrick - gorgeous
Caspar - ok if you kid definietly won't be pale. Much prefer Jasper
Lawrence / Laurence - love because I love Lawrie / Laurie

Tessa
Maude
Jasmine
Leanna
Hazel
Estelle
Lucille
Naomi

George
Daniel
Adam
Neville
David

Rockaby · 27/05/2017 08:57

Oh I absolutely love the name Hazel, but sadly can't use it. I also love Maude, (Empress Maude and Maude Gonne connections are so cool), but it isn't to DH's taste.

I like Adam and have added it to my list.

Favourites are Esther, Sylvia, Rosanna, Serena - in no particular order.
Boys - Christopher - Kit is really nice. Laurence. I'm coming round to Francis. Peter - probably due a revival, so yes.

29Palms · 27/05/2017 13:36

I don't like Peter because of the "pee" sound, and peter is also the French verb for fart.

Rockaby · 27/05/2017 13:52

Yes there's a little rhyme in Les Mots by Sartre which is forever stuck in my head:

"A cheval sur mon bidet, quand il trotte, il fait des pets"

Can't do accents on my pesky phone and my French spelling and grammar are very rusty, but I'm sure you get the idea Grin.

It doesn't put me off the name though as the French verb and the name don't sound anything alike when I say them.

RuthB4 · 27/05/2017 18:26

I love love love Esther - but I sit here cuddling my 2 week old Esther as i type! Grin

I also really like Bridget. Rosanna, Harriet and Sylvia are nice too.

Christopher (Kit/Christie) is gorgeous! And i love Peter too. I'm not so keen on Francis but I love Frank! Not so keen on the others I'm afraid!

Chloris33 · 27/05/2017 18:56

Love your boys names and Gabriel, Laurence & Casper were all on my shortlist for DS too, maybe so we have similar taste (named him Gabriel in the end). I like Sylvia, Esther, Rosanna. How about:

Rosalie
Flora
Florence
Margot
Beatrice
Ariella
