Macie or Macy?

FreezerBunny · 25/05/2017 17:02

Just saw someone say that they have a Macy and it made me remember how much I love this name! Macie is the most common spelling (according to the database) but isn't Macy the original? Which spelling would you go for?

Macy is my preference but that's the one I've seen the most so looks right to me

muffinwaggon · 25/05/2017 17:04

Macy just reminds me of Macy D's.

It's a nice name tho but I would go with Macie.

hazeydays14 · 25/05/2017 17:08

My name most commonly ends in y but my mum chose the ie option (I've only met one other ie in real life)
I am forever saying 'name with an ie' and people always spell my name wrong even though my email signature spells it right which makes me suggest opting for the more common spelling (however I think my name with y ending is not pretty so basically my input is useless 😂)

@NavyandWhite what? Confused

I know a Macey. Would that work?

I'd spell it Macey. I also know a Maci.

ColourfulOrangex · 25/05/2017 18:41

I like Maci

Agree with other posters about Macy Ds

Ontopofthesunset · 25/05/2017 19:04

What is Macy Ds? If you mean McDonald's, that is surely Maccy Ds (otherwise it would be pronounced May-cee not Mack-ee)? Though since it is McDonald's, not MacDonald's, Maccy D's is, though frequently used, a bit of a stretch anyway.

But back to the name. Macy's is the name of a very well-known US department store so that's what I think of. Maisie is a nicer similar name.

If you were going to use it, I think Macy is much better than Macie as the latter looks like a spelling mistake.

Imstickingwiththisone · 25/05/2017 19:07

I like Macy and that's how I'd assume it was spelt if I hadn't seen the name written down.

MargotLovedTom1 · 25/05/2017 19:12

OP NavyandWhite was being mildly catty about your choice of name, whether it be Macy or Macie. Bit odd to say 'if you like it' when you clearly do and are actually talking about the spelling choices.

I have no idea what Macy D is.

I'd say Macy.

Rockaby · 25/05/2017 20:20

Macy, like Macy Gray Smile!

llhj · 25/05/2017 20:21

What about Maisie? That's sweet.

Rockaby · 25/05/2017 20:29

Macy is way cooler than Maisie imo. They are worlds apart to me.

Enidblyton1 · 25/05/2017 20:30

Definitely Macy - great name!

Ontopofthesunset · 25/05/2017 20:45

Yes, but Maisie is a traditional first name, and Macy is a traditional surname. One person's 'cooler' is another person's surname.

Rockaby · 25/05/2017 20:50

Maisie might be more traditional, but that doesn't mean I have to like it more. I was careful to say "imo" in my post as, quite obviously, I don't expect everyone to share my taste.

Ontopofthesunset · 25/05/2017 20:52

Fair enough - you're quite right, and I don't expect everyone to share my taste either.

Rockaby · 25/05/2017 20:54

Though since it is McDonald's, not MacDonald's, Maccy D's is, though frequently used, a bit of a stretch anyway.

YY to this^^ though. The phrase "Maccy Ds" makes my skin crawl and it doesn't make sense.

Rockaby · 25/05/2017 20:55

I was typing that before I saw your response! Looks like I'm responding to your response in a really odd way...

PutThatPomBearBack · 25/05/2017 20:57

Navy Hmm

tabithaa · 25/05/2017 21:17

I love Macy, it's a fab name.

Macy is infinitely nicer.

Macie looks completely wrong.
