Why is Tess/Tessa not popular?

Just that. DH and I have been set on Tess for many years if we have a daughter (8 wks to go till Dc2). We think it's classic, strong but still feminine.

Are we missing something? I know some will say it's a dog's name or others the Two Ton Tess nn. Anything that puts you off?

Any comments appreciated.

I love Tessa/Tess! Would have been a strong contender for DD2 but DH didn't like it. Boo!!

BrexitSucks · 19/05/2017 20:31

Was popular in the 1980s.

I love the name Tessa but always remember when I was a child that overweight ladies were referred to as a two tonne Tessie

I love it and wanted to use it if this baby is a DD2, but nixed by DH Sad

Chatelherault · 20/05/2017 18:50

I know a Tessa - she's lovely, as is her name.

I know of a baby Tessa too, so timeless.

I would associate it more as a dogs name.

Never met a human Tess/Tessa but lots of dogs.

Floggingmolly · 21/05/2017 10:03

It is categorically not a dogs name!

JemimaPuddleDuckle · 21/05/2017 12:12

Agreed! As a previous poster said, anything can be a dog's name these days - I know of dogs named Henry, Lucy, Toby, Oscar, Millie. All lovely baby names IMO. And rhymes can be made up about most names.

To me, Tess/Tessa is an underused classic.

Carolwithane · 21/05/2017 13:29

Personally it reminds me of Tess Daly who I cannot abide

Funny how you associate certain names with specific people

HollyBollyBooBoo · 21/05/2017 13:34

Love it and was my second choice baby name!

MrsAngelClare · 21/05/2017 13:35

I love Tess Wink

Gorgeous underused name. Go for it!

seven201 · 21/05/2017 21:17

It's my dds (11 months) middle name and was my mum's name. I know of a few baby ones and have met a couple of teen Tessa's.

CaptainBrickbeard · 21/05/2017 21:20

I loved both Tess and Jude but Thomas Hardy ruined them both for me - the miserable connotations really put me off! But it's a lovely name.
