Maybe think what nn each would have. I know a Nomes and it's awful!!

nicholar · 09/05/2017 09:09

Naomi

LarrytheCucumber · 09/05/2017 09:10

We have a Gabriella in the family known as Bella.

LilacLillies · 09/05/2017 09:12

Justmade - the nn could be an issue for each - 'Gabby' or 'Nomey' GrinSad

We wouldn't plan to shorten Naomi, Gabriella to 'Ella' IF we decided to shorten. Smile

Both are lovely!

I like Gabriella but prefer Gabby to Ella

Babymamamama · 09/05/2017 09:17

Both are lovely. Naomi has the slight edge for me as it's less well used. And I prefer unusual names.

multivac · 09/05/2017 09:18

Nigh-omi, or Nay-omi? The Naomi I know is the latter - nickname, Nay. You may not plan to shorten your child's name... but it is likely to be shortened, nonetheless...

LilacLillies · 09/05/2017 09:21

We prefer nigh-omi.

We were originally going to go with either Grace or Eva - shorter so they wouldn't be shortened - but apparently they're really overused at the moment.

I love Gabriella, but like Gabrielle even more. I like Bree as a nn, but if you really hate Gabby then maybe Gabriella is not a good choice...

Naomi is nice too. How do you feel about Nay as a nn? The only Naomi I know gets shortened to Nay.

Rockaby · 09/05/2017 09:25

Oh sorry - you e already said!

SuperBeagle · 09/05/2017 09:41

I think Naomi is more commonly pronounced nay-omi, so that might get on your nerves quickly.

But yes, she'll either get Nomes/Nomey or Gabs/Gabby. Depends which you like more! I personally like Naomi more as a full name, but prefer Gabby as a nickname, so. Gabriella could reasonably be shortened to Ella, Bri or even Bella though.

Justmadeperfectflapjacks · 09/05/2017 09:44

Just to add no reason to shorten at all - I have a Gabriel who has been just that for 17 years!!
Tho a friend asked how old before she could call him Gabe and I said never!! If you stick to the full name you can keep it as so!!

17caterpillars1mouse · 09/05/2017 10:15

Both are lovely but I think i slightly prefer Naomi

Sophronia · 09/05/2017 13:27

Naomi

ACatCalledFang · 09/05/2017 13:34

Gabriella! Such a pretty name.

AceRag · 09/05/2017 13:46

Naomi for sure. I want to use Naomi for next DC if it's a girl. I do think Gabriella is beautiful too, so either would be a good choice, but I love Naomi.

29Palms · 09/05/2017 14:18

I knew a lady called Gabrielle whose name was always pronounced Gabriel, like the male version. I think it sounds so much nicer than saying it with the Gab sound.

Gab-Ree-Elle always sounds so awkward to me, whereas Gabriel just flows.

SovietKitsch · 09/05/2017 15:07

But you shouldn't pronounce it Gab-ree-elle although I accept most people do it should pronounced the same as Gabriel but a "ga" sound instead of "gay" sound at the start. It flows just the same way. The Gabrielle I knew who didn't pronounce it that way said "gay-bree-elle" with the emphasis on the "Elle" which is the worst of both worlds IMO!

CakeRattleandRoll · 09/05/2017 15:20

Naomi, nn Mimi.

29Palms · 09/05/2017 15:32

a "ga" sound instead of "gay" sound at the start

But why? The spelling is the same there.

motherinferior · 09/05/2017 16:28

Naomis rock.

ChaoticKate · 09/05/2017 19:07

I'm a Naomi and I love my name, I've only ever met one other. Nobody uses any of the nicknames above. Pick Naomi!

Mrsknackered · 09/05/2017 19:37

Naomi, definitely Smile
