Hi really love these two names but quite torn between the two. Can I have your opinions please. Much appreciated .

Maggie from the Simpsons is a cool Maggie.

I have the bad Thatcher connotations. Am 45. Am I the "older generation" now?

I know a few little Maggies, but don't think it is a very nice sounding name.

Seren is pretty. Though if you are worried about popularity there are loads of other lovely Welsh names.

Seren. Love it.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 10/05/2017 10:49

Love both! I lived through the Thatcher years (we called her Thatcher the Snatcher at primary cos of the milk thing, so that's how old I am!) and I still didn't think of her when I read it. I did think of Maggie Simpson though, and as others have said, she's cool!

Hi OP, is Magnolia with the nickname Maggie too out there for you? You will never meet another Magnolia and it's 1000% cooler than Margaret. As for Seren - Could Seraphina be a possible alternative? It has a lovely sound and I'm sure you could call her Seren as a shortening?

Seren is lovely, as is the meaning - 'star' I think?

Maggie is quirky and could be cute, but I just find very harsh - it's that 'ag' sound, I also dislike Agnes, Agatha and Morag for the same reason.

Normally I would say use the long name rather than a nickname on the birth certificate, but I don't like Margaret much better. I don't know why as it is obviously a classic name. But for some reason it just gives me the image of an older woman, so not timeless to me in the same way as say Elizabeth. I know this is probably illogical!

Oh yes, the dreaded Property Ladder paint shade :)

Well, there are variations like Marguerite and Margarita which perhaps have a younger vibe

Buttercupsandaisies · 11/05/2017 21:48

I prefer Maggie - and as a name - don't see why it has to be short for anything!

Gwencooper81 · 11/05/2017 21:52

I love Seren but I'm never sure if it's Ser-un or Ser-Ren?!
Maggie is lush but a little bit of me will always think of Thatcher.
Serena?

DramaAlpaca · 11/05/2017 21:53

I much prefer Seren.

I don't like Maggie at all.

gladisgood · 11/05/2017 22:00

I like both.

Sorry.

Maggie is lovely and very under-used.

haveacupoftea · 12/05/2017 07:20

There's also Serena or Selena (I adore Selena)

Wheresthattomoibabber · 12/05/2017 07:22

What about Megan? Cross between the two!

Bonbons123 · 12/05/2017 11:31

Lots of great replies thankyou. I like megan but it's already been used in the family. As much as I love maggie I will probably go with seren to be 'safe'. These are the only two names I love. I think maggie is a name that people love or hate. Seren is a safer option i think and I love the meaning star. Having said that when I see her face I might think 'she's a maggie!!' Grin

I know a little Maggie. It really suits her. I think it's a fab name despite any Thatcher connotations.
