Lovely name.

Classic and way underused now.

There's a baby in our mothers group called Michael, and to be honest it took me a while to get used to it on a baby as I tend to associate it with people in their 30s and above. Having said that it is a good classic name and it has grown on me. At the moment he is 'Mike-y' for nn but I think as Michael's grow up they inevitably become Mike's?

All the Michaels I know are good guys. Great name! And the short versions are cool too Mike / Mick / Mickey / Mikey Smile

CakeRattleandRoll · 09/05/2017 14:55

Great name. I also like all of your DP's choices, but Michael is definitely my favourite.

SovietKitsch · 09/05/2017 14:59

I love Michael - I think it's quite timeless. It's unusual for small boys at the moment (if you care about such things) but a universally recognised name. Do it!

SovietKitsch · 09/05/2017 15:00

And don't forget you can have the nickname Spike too!

23jumpstreet · 09/05/2017 15:02

I have a Micheal 3 weeks old his being called mike already.

floraeasy · 09/05/2017 15:04

Evergreen. Perfect. I know a lovely Michael, so biased a bit anyway!

PodgeBod · 09/05/2017 16:06

Really like Michael. Also like Micah which feels a bit more modern (despite being ancient).
DP hates both, though.

haveacupoftea · 12/05/2017 07:29

Michael is a fab name. I can see it making a big comeback in the next 10-20 years like the current spate of Jack, Arthur, Alfie etc.

EmmaWoodlouse · 16/05/2017 16:15

It's funny, I hated Michael as a kid (because the first two I ever new were not very kind to me) but now I kind of like it. Not one of my absolute favourites but I would have been happy enough to use it if DH had been keen. I think it's slightly less popular now than it was in my generation, so there's not too much danger of there being 3 Michaels in a class.

My only real misgiving is that a lot of people seem to find it hard to spell, but you could probably train them!

Like Mike as a short form, the others not quite so much.

From your DH's list, I think it would go quite well with either Henry or George as a middle name - or would Michael George be too George Michael-ish? Probably better that way round than the other way, anyway!

buttercup54321 · 16/05/2017 22:30

Love Michael.

Joeybee · 16/05/2017 23:04

I really like Michael, but the nn Mike is what puts me right off this name. However if you're okay with Mic/Mike, then go for it.
I love all you DP's choices also, especially George.

sonlypuppyfat · 16/05/2017 23:08

Michael means " who is like god " it's the best name in the world, my lovely Dad's name
