Me and DH are currently expecting a baby boy and after lots and lots of deliberation the only name we can semi-agree upon is Lewis. However, the first three letters of our surname are 'Wis' and I'm worried that it will just be weird or look weird when written down: Lewis Wis.....

Our surname has 7 letters in if that makes any difference Grin

It's really bugging me to the point where I think I may have posted about this before but can't actually remember - so apologies if I have Grin Grin

My DH thinks I'm being ridiculous Grin

DramaAlpaca I think it's a great nickname, more so if it's totally random, I was only putting more thoughts out there for the OP Smile

Although a middle name couldn't hurt imo. Lewis Henry Wiseman, for example

He will be Lewis Benjamin Smile

Arr thanks Cricket, I guess I will have to admit to DH now that perhaps I was being ridiculous Grin

I won't tell him that women on an Internet forum managed to change my opinion when he hasn't been able to Grin

How funny OP, you've just thanked Cricket and your son's initials will be LBW Smile. Who knows, he could grow up to be a famous bowler.

Writerwannabe83 · 04/05/2017 13:51

Grin Grin Grin

My DH is the top bowler for our local Cricket Team! I knew there was a reason why the initials LBW seemed strangely familiar, haha.

I bet DH had this planned from the start Grin

It's fine with the surname Smile

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 04/05/2017 14:35

Writer it's a sign Grin

Btw a Lewis I know gets called lewlew/lulu/loulou. Nicknames are totally unpredictable.

sycamore54321 · 04/05/2017 15:39

I think that specific example is ok - the WIS has a different vowel sound and a different S/Z sound so it's not repetitive. Written down, the eye automatically includes E in the surname in the first syllable so it doesn't look the same either.

If there were two names I loved equally, it probably would lead me to choosing the other one, but I do think it is perfectly fine if this is your most loved name. To be honest, I expect very few people would notice

sycamore54321 · 04/05/2017 15:42

Oh and if you want re pronounciation of Lewis, definitely spell it that way, not Louis. Louis to be said Lewis looks illiterate.

Only1scoop · 04/05/2017 20:59

'Min' 'man' hmmm not sure now Confused

BikeRunSki · 04/05/2017 21:02

Lewis Wiseman is fine. The two "Wis" bits are pronounced differently.

LoveForTulips · 04/05/2017 21:03

I think that works well! It's beautiful name 😊
I have D's at the end of my first name and my surname starts with a D and I hate it! Too many D's on the tongue. I get married soon and I can not wait!

VerySadInside · 04/05/2017 21:04

Sounds very American, Lewis Benjamin Wiseman!

Louis is pronounced Lou-ee to me. And every Lewis I know has at some point had louie/lou/lulu as a nickname.

Writerwannabe83 · 04/05/2017 21:07

Hmm

I'm now doubting the 'min' of Benjamin followed by the 'man' of Wiseman...

Why does naming babies have to be so difficult.....

LoveForTulips · 04/05/2017 21:10

The Min and Man is similar to my D issue!! If you like the name, use it!

Writerwannabe83 · 04/05/2017 21:13

And as is ajwats being said in this forum, nobody is ever really bothered about middle names anyway. He wouldn't introduce himself as Lewis Benjamin Wiseman.

The Benjamin is after DH's dad and as our other DS has my dad's name as a middle name I can't exactly veto it.....

Lewis Wiseman is fine. Nice name. The stress falls on the first syllable of each name, so LEW-is WHY-ze-man. Lewis Wisdom might be a bit of a mouthful, but with Wiseman? Nothing to worry about. If your husband is a cricket fan, the LBW initials may cause a smile, but it's certainly nothing embarrassing. Perfect!
