Beatrycze or Izabela?

Bea or Izzy day to day, but full names on birth certificate. We are a polish family but live in Chelsea.

Izabela

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 29/04/2017 20:05

Izabela.

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 29/04/2017 20:06

Izabela. Also because I really prefer Izzy to Bea...

ijustwannadance · 29/04/2017 20:09

Beatrycze looks wrong. People will never spell it correctly. Beatrice.

NoSquirrels · 29/04/2017 20:10

Izabela purely because the Polish spelling of that name is less difficult in England than Beatrycze.

Mum2jenny · 29/04/2017 20:11

Don't think either are a good choice.

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 29/04/2017 20:12

Sorry to ask... But what about Izabella?

alltouchedout · 29/04/2017 20:15

Izabela :)

harderandharder2breathe · 29/04/2017 22:50

Izabela

Don't worry about spelling, there's so many variants of Isabel/Isabella that they'll all have to spell it out anyway. And of course you want to use the polish spelling being a polish family.

Obviouspretzel · 30/04/2017 07:30

Every single time on a thread with Polish names you have someone telling you it "looks wrong". So rude and ignorant.

I like Izabela best but mainly because Izzy is a very cool nickname. Both names are nice.

PhoenixJasmine · 30/04/2017 07:34

I much prefer Bea/Beatrycze. But that's because Beatrice is one of my all time favourite names (and I like the nn Tris as well, I guess in polish it could be Tryz/Tryc?!). However I can see that in London, Izabela is going to be 'easier' than Beatrycze. So I guess if that bothers you then Izabela wins.

Spudlet · 30/04/2017 07:37

Just out of interest, is the Polish pronunciation of Beatrycze closer to the English one or to the Italian one (Which is a bit like Bee-ah-trich-ay)? Just interested as I think the Italian way is really pretty and prefer it to the English way so that would influence my decision!

Regardless, I think both are pretty names. Purely from the point of view of what will be easiest, Izabela probably wins as it's going to be easier for English speakers to pronounce and spell, and it's a very pretty name also. It depends how much that matters to you though, as people will learn - it's just that your daughter might have to correct some mangled pronunciations of Beatrycze. So it's whether you think that will bother you.

Bea for me!

Agree with Francis too.

MarcelineQueen · 30/04/2017 08:12

Both are great but impersonally prefer beatrycze

Lemondrop09 · 30/04/2017 09:04

Beatrycze.

Bra is a cute nickname and there's soooo many Izzy/Isabelle/Isabella's around already.

Lemondrop09 · 30/04/2017 09:05

*Bea, not Bra! Bra is not a cute nickname!

I went to school with a girl nn Bra or Dubbie. (not in the UK, btw...). Her actual name was Dubravka.

Montsti · 30/04/2017 12:49

I love both names but do think that, if you are in the UK then Izabela will less likely be spelt/pronounced incorrectly. If that doesn't bother you then I would go with Beatrycze!

Beautiful names and I'm planning on calling my daughter Beatrice nn.Bea.

EssentialHummus · 30/04/2017 12:55

Beatrycze from me

Pemba · 30/04/2017 18:23

Brits will find the spelling Beatrycze a bit tricky whereas Izabela is fairly straightforward. Plus I love Isabella and don't like Beatrice much, so Izabela.

TinselTwins · 30/04/2017 18:25

Brits will find the spelling Beatrycze a bit tricky

I disagree, I think most brits these days are fairly familiar with polish versions of common names.

Definitely Beatrycze for me, it's lovely and I like the spelling

Mrsknackered · 30/04/2017 20:15

Beatrycze! Love it. Especially Bea.

Backing up other posters about the ignorant posts about Eastern European names looking wrong. It drives me up the wall.

Name12345 · 01/05/2017 21:35

They're both beautiful names!!
Two of my best friends have these names! But I would have to go with Iza, as I know a few tiny izabelas, an Iza, a Bela, and an Izi, all under five, and I can't imagine a teeny tiny bea. (But that's probably just me!) they're both fab!
