Wow. Not heard of it till now. I'm Jewish but it's not a name I've come across. I do agree most people will assume it's either a typo.
Would have suggested Cain as an alternative - but he wasn't the nicest of guys what with murdering his brother.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/04/2017 15:57

hoddtastic · 27/04/2017 16:28

SabsMatthews · 27/04/2017 16:40

I get that it's not liked, so thanks.

Hopping but do you think that's funny? It's a real Hebrew name, so don't take the piss Hmm

Or how About Spaniel?

Works for girl or boy

floraeasy · 27/04/2017 16:44

The name "Kaniel" is of Hebrew origin, and it means God is my Reed

Something new I've learned today. I must confess I had never heard the name before.

I can't even decide if I like it or not yet. It's so strange to my ears. I'd have to have a mull over and get back to you.

2014newme · 27/04/2017 16:45

Who cares if it's Hebrew! It's a daft name! Regardless of origin

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 27/04/2017 16:51

Thats a bit xenophobic really.

Sample1936 · 27/04/2017 16:53

I recognise it from prison break too.

EssentialHummus · 27/04/2017 16:58

No from me - as someone with a ginormous Israeli family who hears a lot of Jewish names. Just sounds odd. Sorry.

BuckinghamLass · 27/04/2017 17:04

I actually quite like it (but then I like all the weird names on here) but I think he'll spend his life going "No, not Daniel, Kaniel."

SabsMatthews · 27/04/2017 17:05

Why is it stupid though? It's fine to say you don't like it, but why is it stupid?

Choccyhobnob · 27/04/2017 17:11

Is it pronounced Ka-Neil? Because I don't mind that but because of the similar spelling to Daniel it would probably be mispronounced that way.

Floggingmolly · 27/04/2017 17:12

People will assume he's saying Daniel with an unfortunate speech impediment.

Foureyesarebetterthantwo · 27/04/2017 17:20

It does sound very similar to the very popular Jewish name Daniel, that's why!

So, the brain mishears and tries to make sense of it.

If you google 'Kaniel' you will see there is almost no-one with that as a first name, and only a few people with it as a second name. It appears to be more a Jewish surname than a first name from what I can see.

InvisibleKittenAttack · 27/04/2017 17:21

Is it pronounced Ken neil or Ken-nell?

If it's the latter it'll sound like canal in a northern accent. He'll get called Suez at school.

dotdotdotmustdash · 27/04/2017 17:22

Don'tiel

DissonantInterval · 27/04/2017 17:48

I agree it's not nice to take the piss. Ok it's very unsual and yes, it does sound like Daniel gone a bit awry but if it's a real name then I think it's out of order. I'd not take the piss out of any name whatever it's origin. Would say if I liked or didn't like it but not mock it :(

JanuarySmith · 27/04/2017 21:27

I don't like the name but I'm really embarrassed for the ignorant twats on this thread who are showing themselves up

OhTheRoses · 27/04/2017 21:36

It's stupid because everyone will think "poor sod" about the child whose name it is. The less polite will smirk and some will comment.

It sounds like a name a not particularly well educated person gives to a child. "innit like"
