Jamie

What do you think of the name Jamie? Is it better as a nickname for James or on its own? Does it sound dated? How many do you know?

I like it as a nn for James.
I know two Jamies (but that's in both cases a nn for James).

I like it short for James. It does sound a little bit dated, but it's a nice name.

Ds1 is Jamie, short for James. Not officially, it just sort of evolved...

A little dated. But I prefer it to James.

I've got a Jamie, he's 14 now, never been a James he's Jamie on his bc, doesn't seem to have done him any harm so far!

I like James with nn Jamie.

I like Jamie. I know a couple of Jamies my age (early 40s) and a few DS1s age (mid teens). I always prefer the proper name on the BC - there's choice for them then.
My James is Jim. He's the only one I know and it's lovely.

I love Jim as well Barney. I think I should have called one of my dses James as I love it plus all the nicknames.

James, nick name Jamie..

I don't like it. It sounds 'wet' to me, like Tim. Aside from that, I'm a fan of grown-up names on birth certificates. There was a point, aged 11 or 12, that the vast majority of children in my class with cutesy short-forms asked to be called by the more grown-up version. 3 Jamies became James, the Dannys became Daniel or Dan and Nicky became Nick. Not one of them has gone back to the childhood version.

Adore James and hate Jamie. It sounds twee and cutesy.

I like it as a nickname for James. Jamie is cute for a little one, but James sounds more grown up and dignified to me. And it's nice to have the option of using both.

I've known a Jamie as anything other than Jamie, i class it as a standalone name rather than a nickname and think it's perfectly fine.

Then again my sister is a Jaimee which also sounds fine to me.

I've never got it as a nickname for James - to me it's a separate name. I like both James and Jamie.
