It's a no from me, is it an actual name or a made up word?

I think I prefer Cam or Cameron, tbh...

Is there a reason for the K? Or is it an entirely different name and has no connection to Cam/Cameron at all?

It has a few different spellings - Cameron: Camren, Camron, Camryn, Kameron, Kamron and Kamryn. All are actual names, there's an English spelling, a Gaelic spelling and a Scottish spellling for eg!

Some people might say Kam is 'made up' but it's just like for eg when someone calls their child Sam instead of the full 'Samuel'! Also there are lots of names that begin with Kam/Cam other than Cameron! I leant more towards the K as I have a son who's name begins with C already so wanted to try to keep away from C's

Kamal, Camden, Campbell, Kamen, Camelot, Cameo, Camilo & Camrey to name a few!

We have a few Cameron's in our family. A couple of them are known informally as Cam.

I prefer the full name and shortened by friends.

But Cameron is a name. Kam isn't. Call your child a shortened version of the name but please put an actual name on the poor kid's birth certificate.

You've never heard of Camelot? sure it's not exactly common but it's still a name! I was only making the point that if a child's name is Kam it doesn't automatically mean that it is short for Cameron! I knew a child called Campbell who got called Cam/Cammy, nothing to do with 'Cameron'! Also plenty names are shortened from other names, Sam, Max & Josh for eg

Kam is an actual name! It's Scottish, feel free to google it

I've never met a Camelot or a Cameo. And I honestly don't like Camden (and I really don't like Kamden, tbh...)

But I do like the name Camillo. However, that's Camillo. Not Kam.

It also has a Native American meaning of 'sweet darling' (I didn't know this til now) but it's defo a name in its own right! Aw I don't like any of the other names either I was only listing names that start the same lol

Cam/Cameron is a beautiful name IMHO but my honest answer to 'Kam' is just no, no, no! It's not a name most people will recognise and it sounds like a camera product

I know 3 boys called Cam.

A Campbell, and 2 Cal(l)ums.
Also 2 Calums known as "Cammy".

In my DC demographic (13-18) there are a lot of Calums!

To me Kam is an Indian name and my friend with the name is Indian (and female). The Scottish version is listed as deriving from Cameron aka 'crooked nose'.

I hate most of those other K/Cam versions you listed. So its a no from me. (Camelot? Cameo? The hellish?)

Kam is not a traditional Scottish name. There is a load of rubbish on some baby name websites. As others have said, Cameron (surname now sometimes used as first name) comes from two Gaelic words meaning crooked and nose: cam + sron. Traditionally, 'K' was not used in Gaelic spelling; it is now, in Anglicised spelling.

I have 2 friends called Kam. One female (not sure if it's short for anything) and the other male and he's Kamal.
Cameron nn Cam is doable.
