Welsh names - how popular is Taliesin?

We are not in Wales but have Welsh heritage and so are thinking of names for a DS. Taliesin is the favourite so far.
If you are in Wales do you know any Taliesins? Is it a fairly popular name there or is it still quite 'out there'?

I live in Wales and know one Taliesin. We call him Tal, mostly. I think
it's uncommon rather than out there. I like it a lot.

From what I've heard it's like Tally Ess In (emphasis on the Ess).

Uncommon but lovely. If DH's parents' dog wasn't called Taliesin, I'd have it as a middle name for a future DS.

Knew one when we lost bed in Wales. He pronounced his name as shown upthread. However, there's one on 'Child in our Time' - the Robert Winston fronted Programme following children born in 2000.

That child's name is pronounced Talison - like Alison with a T on the front.

I'm surprised how much I've fallen for it. Saw it on here then read it in a mythology book. :o

But that happened with my youngest's name too - had no idea for ages, then suddenly saw the name (it's not even an unusual one, I just hadn't considered it) and that was it, that WAS his name.

Yes, this is correct. It's a very old Welsh name. The only one I can think of is Tal Michael, son of the politician Alun Michael.

Tal-yess-in sounds more like what I was trying to describe thank you. Hopefully won't be too difficult for people to pronounce in England?

My friends son is called Taliesin, nn Tali. I love it! It was also the name of my local primary school, in North Wales!

I'm in (South) Wales and have only ever come across one. I like Tal.

Never met one, but there's an American voice actor named Taliesin Jaffe in Critical Role, a popular YouTube DnD show I watch. I think they pronounce it Tally son but that's probably the American pronunciation.

I am in Wales and never heard of it until I moved to Taliesin Street! No one can ever pronounce it. Quite like it though.

I'm not in Wales and don't personally know any Taliesins, but it is my most favourite Welsh boy's name ever! I would pronounce it tal-YES-in. I have Welsh heritage, but would never have been able to convince DH to use it, so I'm very jealous.

It's quite a bit more unusual than our older DCs' names but I think that's not so much of an issue when the name has such a strong history IYSWIM? I may be talking crap there of course :o

My son's name is Taliesin. We call him Tal mostly. He's 17 now. We had 2 other Taliesins in the family between late 1800s and 1980. It's a really strong name.

I don't know any but I'm in a South Wales city so not a particularly Welsh area and 95% of the children i know are girls (Brownie leader)
