Adeline or Adelyn?

My husband and I have been going around in circles for a baby girl's name. We have a daughter already and lost a daughter at 20 weeks pregnant in December 15, so we have been struggling to be inspired by names due to this.

Last night, having gone through names for a zillionth time, we both actually agreed we love this name, but just working through the spelling. I think I prefer the Adeline spelling (sounds like Caroline) but Adelyn might be softer and more contemporary?? Or Adelyn? Just interested in thoughts :)

Thanks very much
J xx

My name is very similar if I was so to pick I would choose Adeline

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 21/04/2017 10:19

Adeline (sounds like Caroline).
It's a lovely name, Addie.
I don't like the 'Lyn' part.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 21/04/2017 10:20

Adelaide is also nice.

HeyCat · 21/04/2017 10:26

I'd pronounce them differently - surely adelyn would be a-dell-in?

MadisonAvenue · 21/04/2017 10:27

Adeline is a really lovely name, I don't like the 'lyn' ending on Adelyn.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 21/04/2017 10:46

HeyCat, yes, you're right.

RicketyCricket · 21/04/2017 10:48

First of all, I'm sorry for the loss of your daughter Flowers.

Adeline is really lovely (makes me think of the time travel film with Blake Lively).

Adelyn - I really don't like the pronunciation and it sounds very American to me which isn't a good thing.

catley · 21/04/2017 11:03

I much prefer Adalyn :)

SuperBeagle · 21/04/2017 11:21

Adeline is gorgeous.

I'm not as much of a fan of Adelyn.

Sorry for your loss. Flowers

TheNaze73 · 21/04/2017 11:23

Both very nice names

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 21/04/2017 11:27

I'm sorry for your loss.

I prefer Adeline. But my pronunciation isn't like Caroline, tbh...

HelenaJustina · 21/04/2017 11:28

I love Adeline and Adelaide

SoupDragon · 21/04/2017 11:29

I am helpfully going to buck the trend and say that I prefer Adelyn.

user1492757084 · 21/04/2017 12:03

I'm not a fan of either - though they are not offensive.
I am always at odds with how to say them.

I love Ada -
I love Adele - noble kind tender
I love Adelpha - dear sister
Delphi is sweet.

I guess I prefer a name that is obvious in pronunciation.
Best wishes for your baby.

BasicBetty · 21/04/2017 13:01

Adeline (like Caroline) would be my choice.

Sophronia · 21/04/2017 16:19

Definitely Adeline, to rhyme with Caroline. Lovely name.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 21/04/2017 19:24

I much prefer how Adelyn sounds personally, although something about the way it looks makes me read it a-DEL-in, but not sure how else you could spell it. Maybe Addelyn. Adeline is a bit harsh for my ears, which is weird as Adelaide is my chosen name if this baby is a girl!

beachsands · 21/04/2017 19:31

I love Adelyn. Was a name I thought of for DC1 but DC1 was a he!

JOMH1982 · 21/04/2017 20:35

Thanks very much for your comments ladies! We've only got 2 and A half weeks left max so haven't got long to finalise! Xx

I know a baby Adalyn, gorgeous name.

Alisvolatpropiis · 22/04/2017 07:22

Adeline is lovely. Not so keen on Adelyn. It looks like a misspelling of the Welsh name Aderyn, to me.

wooster16 · 22/04/2017 14:57

Adele? Great meaning and a strong feminine name.

thethoughtfox · 22/04/2017 15:18

Adelyn spelling completely changes the pronunciation. It looks American in a Britney Jean Spears kind way. The original spelling and pronunciation are classic and lovely.

whattheactualfudge · 22/04/2017 15:19

Adalyn

whattheactualfudge · 22/04/2017 15:19

Or Adallyn
