Thoughts on Jovie

Hi,

Need some advice, we both like the name Jovie but others have said it sounds like J0bby, especially in Glaswegian accent! Don't know what to do as we both love the name and have few other ideas but don't want to risk it if people will associate it with that word.

just for funsies, i would like to share the best tribute band name ever: By Jovi

don't name your kid after JBJ. call it Tempest after Joey Tempest off of Europe.

SuckingEggs · 19/04/2017 22:38

EnjoyYourVegetables · 19/04/2017 23:01

Bon Jovi but that has to be a generational association which will pass.

ftw · 19/04/2017 23:12

💩💩💩💩

You can't know it sounds like slang for shite then do it anyway, you just can't.

anxietyrus · 19/04/2017 23:13

I like it Blush

Singingforsanity · 19/04/2017 23:18

I thought jovial, but I reckon that kid will get a lot of shit (sorry) in the playground.

AuntMatilda · 19/04/2017 23:31

I adore it. And once had a mouse called it. But those statements are unrelated. I really really like the name.

Bongiovi (sic?) Means 'good life' in Italian. It's a nod to that :)

Riderontheswarm · 19/04/2017 23:36

I saw it and thought Juvie in an Australian accent as in young offender or young offenders' institute. Now everyone else has pointed out the bon jovie thing that's all I can think about.

twattymctwatterson · 19/04/2017 23:38

And you live in Glasgow? Please don't do that to your child

Sophronia · 20/04/2017 00:14

Too similar to Bon Jovi. I know a Jovianne though.

gmc600 · 20/04/2017 06:07

Thanks for all the replies, I'm surprised there are so many negative reactions to it. Tbh it has nothing to do with Bon Jovi and we didn't really think so many people would make that association Shock It's for a girl and we thought it sounds really nice and is related to Jove/jovial. What about Jovia?

HomityBabbityPie · 20/04/2017 08:02

Sorry still makes me think of bon jovi

HomityBabbityPie · 20/04/2017 08:03

Or Jovial, which sounds like a fat jolly old man

LouKout · 20/04/2017 08:09

Thats worse..sorry

ftw · 20/04/2017 08:10

And still sounds like jobby.

Bubblysqueak · 20/04/2017 08:13

If for a girl I thin Josie would be better. It sounds very similar with other Bon Jovi association.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 20/04/2017 08:21

i thought Elf too.

iamEarthymama · 20/04/2017 08:21

If the Jehovah's Witnesses are approaching, we say The Jovies are on the Way! as a warning.

If you like that sound, Josie is a pretty name for a girl.

twattymctwatterson · 20/04/2017 08:25

Which area in Glasgow OP? You might get away with it in some of the very affluent areas but wee Jovia will probably get a terrible time at school otherwise.

chipsnmayo · 20/04/2017 08:47

I'd think you were huge Bon Jovi fans tbh.

ShotsFired · 20/04/2017 08:55

I'm with the Elf contingent on "Jovie". But it could be worse. you could be calling her "Buddy The Elf What's Your Favourite Colour".

And "Jovia" is worse - sounds like one of those sugar substitutes (Stevia, Truvia, Jovia). And both will end up with years of enduring "Jodie?" as pp say.

As for the origins of it, "Jovial" is like the fat man's equivalent of "Bubbly" for a fat woman. Surely there is a nicer "happy"-based name if that is where you are getting inspiration from?
