Prosper (for a boy)?

DH's suggestion, I love it but am concerned it is at least one of the above...

Its ok. Cant say I love it though.
Reminds me of Prospero a fictional character and the protagonist of William Shakespeare's play The Tempest.

To be honest, I have heard far worse. And I am quit a names traditionalistGrin

I know quite a few virtue names though -Prudence, Blessing, Gift etc. It can be quite cultural.

I love Shakespearean names and I have a Miranda, but that's a bit .... too much IMO.

I work with a lovely African man called Prosper. Never thought it weird or pretentious.

I always think that virtue names kind of put pressure on the child to live up to their name, or that might just be me being weird...

I think it's fine. A LOT of people won't even know what it means (I am including native English speakers in that). Just obscure enough to be nice.

Further to pps, virtue names do tend to work well in certain African cultures, but I really don't think that most of them translate well in the UK, with the odd notable exception eg Constance.

I would assume you had African heritage. I know a Fabulous and a Comfort which fit them perfectly but im not sure would work for people from othrr cultures. I think the same would apply for Prosper.
