Currently our favourite boys name. We wouldn't name him something longer just to shorten it
What do you think?

CaoNiMartacus · 07/04/2017 22:10

To close to "pus".

Sophronia · 07/04/2017 22:32

I only like it short for Angus, Fergus, Magnus, Gustav or August/Augustus

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 08/04/2017 09:30

Only as a nick name.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/04/2017 15:45

Its adorable. However the first thing that comes in to my mind, is. That cute little tubby mouse from Cinderella.

Lidlfix · 08/04/2017 16:28

It's never really been "out" as name in Scotland but generally as nn for Angus and is lovely. A name that can be cute and still grown into. Never taught an Angus that I didn't like (was at school with a head case Gus) .

OlennasWimple · 08/04/2017 16:30

Angus nn Gus is nice

raisinsofwrath · 08/04/2017 16:31

In the west country he'd be called gus honeybun

villainousbroodmare · 09/04/2017 03:35

Exactly what LettuceMash said. With jam coming out between his fingers and a rivulet of grease running up his chunky wrist.

MrsEricBana · 09/04/2017 04:31

Yes sorry, Billy Bunterish connotations here too.

Littlelegs19 · 09/04/2017 05:03

Sorry OP, reminds me of the big mouse from Cinderella. Blush

Jemimapiddleduck · 09/04/2017 05:18

The reason we called our son August was so I could nickname him Gus..

Now he is bloody well called Augie. Ha.

Suffice to say I love the name

CaipirinhasAllRound · 09/04/2017 09:07

A mixed bag of opinions, thanks all. The negatives haven't put me off yet

I like it. I've only ever met one Gus and he was lovely. I'm also from the Westcountry so the only other association I made was Gus Honeybun and he was a rabbit with attitude.

I also like Pip and Kit!

lljkk · 09/04/2017 09:20

West coast Americans find it hideous (... if you care about increasingly globalized world). I thought most MNers loved it.

throughgrittedteeth · 09/04/2017 09:32

Oh I love it, made me smile when I saw the thread title Smile

TheTempest · 09/04/2017 09:36

My dog is called Gus, safe to say I like it 😀

oleoleoleole · 09/04/2017 09:39

Love it, I know a Gus and he gets Gussie too!

RickGrimes · 09/04/2017 09:46

Love it.

OnlyTheDepthVaries · 09/04/2017 14:46

I've got an Angus nn Gus so love it. Suits all ages I think. However, his nn at school was Fungus for a while!

Jauncornetto · 09/04/2017 19:31

If DD had been a DS she'd (he'd?) have been called Gus. Love it Smile

BipBippadotta · 10/04/2017 16:14

Love Gus. Would use it for my as yet unnamed DS but it doesn't fit his surname.

goldenrachita · 10/04/2017 16:26

It's really, really cute and for a short name it's unusually original. I prefer it as an abbreviation of something longer but maybe that's just me.

PestoSwimissimos · 10/04/2017 16:28

Call him Asparagus

Gus for short

Cute

DramaAlpaca · 10/04/2017 21:41

I like it as a nickname for Angus, Magnus etc, but not on its own.
