So recently, for no reason, I've fallen in love with the name Matilda. I only have a few weeks until DD is here but I'm worried that it's not nice/ or is an 'old' name? What do you think?Sad

It's perfectly nice. Some people will love it, some will hate it it most will think it's fine. You are definitely not shackling your DD with problems with this name so go for it!

Gorgeous name!! Go for it!!

Pancaker · 06/04/2017 11:37

Yes, a lovely name!

DeborahFallis77 · 06/04/2017 11:38

Love it. 💗
Some gorgeous nicknames too - Tilly, Matty, Tilda.
Go for it.
In 14 years of teaching I've never had a Matilda (and this is something I look for when naming my own kiddos...to have never taught a child with that name!)

YokoReturns · 06/04/2017 11:38

Lovely but EXTREMELY popular - I wouldn't be surprised to see it in the Top Ten this year.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 06/04/2017 11:38

It's lovely. Considered it for dd.

SuperBeagle · 06/04/2017 11:38

I love Matilda. Great name.

meettherussians · 06/04/2017 11:39

Don't like it sorry, sounds silly/short-term trendy and immature to me and also has zero grace. But if you love it, who cares!

BoboBunnyH0p · 06/04/2017 11:41

Lovely name, I know one who goes by nn Tilda.

MelinaMercury · 06/04/2017 11:42

I think it's a perfectly reasonable, timeless name which suits children and adults.

It's not overly popular here but we do have a lot of Tilly's if that matters.

TheBookIsOnTheTable · 06/04/2017 12:05

It's very popular right now, so I think your worries are unfounded.

Jooni · 06/04/2017 12:09

Love it, it's not Top 10 popular but certainly well-used, so I'm guessing the general reaction to it will be good.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 06/04/2017 12:19

❤️ Matilda, beautiful name.

steppemum · 06/04/2017 12:24

quite popular round here. Tilly is most common nn which I like too.

Frustratedboarder · 06/04/2017 12:27

We have a middle name Matilda, with a more unusual first name as it is definitely more popular right now but obviously we are definite fans! One of the main deciding factors - along with abreviation flexibility as previously mentioned - was the meaning (means Strong in Battle) which we felt was really inspiring, motivating, and of course strengthening... Grin can't understand why more people don't research name meaning when choosing tbh but there we go!

Anyway, yeh - do it!!!

BasicBetty · 06/04/2017 14:13

I don't like it at all, sorry.

Sophronia · 06/04/2017 18:23

Lovely but quite popular.

ClaryBeanHorshAndMe · 06/04/2017 18:38

I have an aunt called Matilda (and she's an extremely interesting character... ) and it seems to have become somewhat popular again.

It's a really lovely name imo.

Same. But I'm probably taking it a bit too seriously. Because name meanings have put me off names I actually quite liked...

Error404usernamenotfound · 06/04/2017 18:42

I like it - there aren't enough strong-sounding girls' names around. It is getting very popular at the moment though - that may bother you or it may not.

scrivette · 06/04/2017 19:03

There are a couple around my way, one goes by Tilly.
It's a sweet name.

Ikeameatballs · 06/04/2017 19:05

I really love it, particularly with the nicknames Matty or Tilda, less keen on Tilly.

Rockaby · 06/04/2017 19:06

Lovely but popular / having a moment I think, (if that bothers you).

AliciaMayEmory · 06/04/2017 19:11

I love it. I know a 6 year old Matilda who is known as Tilly.

Knittedfrog · 06/04/2017 19:12

Love it

DumbledoresArmy30 · 06/04/2017 19:14

Totally biased - I love it, and it gets lots of compliments. Don't know any others either.
