Name changed for this. Is this a good name or not? It has some strong references, that we've probably all heard of. It's easy to pronounce and spell, and most will have heard of it.

I really love it, but don't think I'd ever dare to use it, even though our surname is indeed Jones and I'm pretty relaxed about unusual names! Smile. I like the Greek myth and Camomile Lawn connections, but I think it's a name that would be very difficult to live up to. Having said that, there was a Calypso in a school I used to teach in and no one batted an eyelid about her name.

Maybe more usable as a middle name?

Gunpowder · 06/04/2017 16:01

LOVE IT. I think the camomile lawn too. DH vetoed it Hmm

ClaryBeanHorshAndMe · 06/04/2017 16:50

Like the amusement part ride!! (I wonder if it still exists?)

Why not...? It is really nice. Does it "go" with your surname?

ColourfulOrangex · 06/04/2017 17:58

Reminds me of the ice lolly but then i am craving them at the minute lol as long as you like it OP

originalbiglymavis · 06/04/2017 18:05

Anyone seen the ice cream video where they open up a frozen tub of ice cream, slice it into rounds and pop a lollypop stick in the side to make ice cream lollies - dipped in chocolate and nuts etc. I think it's on YouTube.

I want one now.

Cagliostro · 06/04/2017 18:10

Do I need to persevere with the Camomile Lawn? I watched the first episode (it's all on all4 I believe) but didn't continue. Should I have?

As an aside :o I quite like the name but wouldn't be brave enough myself.

hairlaquer · 06/04/2017 18:14

I was looking for the ice lollies and found these. Remember these? Calypso drinks.

Thanks for the replies. It was only a possible, very unlikely possible, middle name. And I'm less convinced now Grin

It's a bit dated, Callig. I think it's due a remake. Have you read the book? Yes persevere. Cazalets has a similar feel, and more of a 'story' if you like that sort of thing.

Yes I remember those drinks! There was a blue one too of an indeterminate flavour. Vile they were.

LauraPalmersBodybag · 06/04/2017 19:57

Like the ice lolly?

Isitjustmeorisiteveryoneelse · 06/04/2017 20:03

Made me think of Pirates of the Caribbean character Calypso, who I loved, so for me, great name.

oleoleoleole · 06/04/2017 20:14

Not a good name IMO it's hideous!

DeathByMascara · 06/04/2017 20:17

I love it! It's fabulous, such a happy sounding name!

buttercup54321 · 06/04/2017 23:53

Awful

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/04/2017 00:06

It makes me think of a baby chick

villainousbroodmare · 07/04/2017 00:08

An absolute no from me!

Duffmcstockings · 07/04/2017 00:15

In Mary Wesley' s later books Calypso married an older man, whom she adored. He plants cherry trees in his wood that spell calypso in the spring in blossom

Duffmcstockings · 07/04/2017 00:16

I love it

MommaGee · 07/04/2017 00:19

Ice lolly

icantgetnosleep5 · 07/04/2017 13:38

My god! Just No

I think Calypso was only ever married once, to Hector who she originally married for money in exchange for giving Hector an heir. She later fell in love with Hector even though she'd shagged half of London during the first few months of their marriage and WWII and it was implied that he was violent towards her when he was drunk.

It was when he was a POW that he decided he would plant the cherry blossoms that spelled her name (which, we found out in the later books, that he did just that).

Sorry for the hijack but Calypso (young and old) was such a fabulous character. She was so unapologetic.

I think it's rather pretty. The ancient Greek nymph Calypso is mysterious, romantic and tragic - her story, from Homer's Odyssey, can be read here:
