We don't know the sex of the baby yet but if little one is a boy I'm really feeling the name Dexter right now I just think it's so cute and not too common where we live but when I've mentioned this to others they are either shocked I would even suggest this name or they think it's hilarious! Surely it's not THAT out there? I know it's up to me at the end of the day but I would still like some opinions please :D

Sorry, off main topic a bit but there was a Myra in the year above me in school. She'd have been born in 1968, just a couple of years after those shocking events. Most people were in shock at the horror, whereas her parents were thinking "Hmm, Myra... that's a pretty name" Grin

Not just Ian Brady, but we also have Ians Huntley and Watkins too, now. Then again, the name Ian is apparently on the rise in the US so may have a revival here too at some point.

Still love Dexter, though Smile

Bit faddy I think

Queensparkles · 07/04/2017 18:48

icantgetnosleep5 aw really, see I literally know NONE apart from when Charlotte Church called her wee boy this a few years back! Where about is it faddy? Maybe it depends where you are etc!

My dn is callee Dexter. I think it's a lovely name. Very masculine and strong and unusual without being too out there.

I have never watched the programme. But I always say programmes come and go. And you could call your baby anything and a subsequent tv programme come out with someone awful with his/her name.

Queensparkles · 07/04/2017 19:29

frouby you are so right! Thanks Wink

ChippieFishieHorshie · 07/04/2017 19:48

Not a fan.

But I quite like Dax?

SillySausage1 · 07/04/2017 19:53

I have a Dexter so I obviously love it. Have only come across one other so far so still fairly unusual but people always seem to have very positive reactions to the name (although they may be faking it to be polite i suppose!). I think my parents and in-laws were a bit unsure of the name at first but they didn't say anything negative. It made me wonder if it was a generational thing.

Queensparkles · 07/04/2017 21:00

chippiefishiehorshie I like it the nn Dex! But never heard of the name Dax before!

sillysausage1 I think it might be a generational thing as our parents hate it at the mo haha I think it's still a fairly unusual name in Scotland I don't know any! Do ppl use the nn Dex for him?

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 07/04/2017 21:03

The serial killer is a likeable character, so that wouldn't put me off. I warmed to it when a friend was considering using it for her DS.

lili3 · 07/04/2017 21:09

I have one, he is the cutest, cheekiest kid around and the name totally suits him. Everyone who meets him loves his name. I had never heard of the cartoon when I had him, and only watched the tv show after he was born and neither have changed my love for the name!

SillySausage1 · 07/04/2017 21:20

A couple of people have called him Dex. I imagine it will become that as he gets older if he likes it. My parents now love the name btw (as always happens once the baby is actually here!)

Queensparkles · 07/04/2017 21:24

Yeah I know they will all be fine once baby is here etc but it just bugs me in the meantime as some ppl are outright rude about it! That's why I've decided to stop discussing name with friends/family and use this forum instead! My other half loves the name too Grin
