Baby names

Stick with theme or change? Twins on the way

Our three children have names starting with the same initial. The first two were not deliberate, they were just names we agreed on. We thought our third would be the last baby so we stuck to the same initial. The initial is C.

Now having twins and deciding whether to stick to the same initial, choose a different initial thats the same for both babies, or give them both separate initials. Twins are both girls.

However we absolutely love one girls name and it starts with the same initial, or could start with different but same sound. The name is Cara. We could spell it Kara.

However we can't come up with another C or K name that we like but we do like Sydney which we could sell Cydney.

Wish we'd never started this now. Even our 2 dogs and 3 cats have C names.

Please don't give your girls matching initials.

They will share a DOB and address. Having them both as for example Mellos, C will make forms and things a nightmare.

I have boy/girl twins and even with different initials and sex stuff still gets mixed up and confused from time to time.

You need to make it easy to tell records apart.

Go for it. Cara is beautiful. Cydney I have no problem with because I just think of Cyd Charisse.
Chris Brown (less said about him the better) has a gf called Cydney.
I used to teach a Sidney, I think Cyd is more feminine than Sid.
As for the Carcrashians, fuck it, my mum did it first and I have continued the tradition. I could not agree on the third though so am still hacked off they don't match Wink

I call bull on the same initials causing mix ups. Never did with any of my family and then some took partners' names when married in any case.

I have a sister called Cydney. Only ever had positive comments.

I think either stick with all C or different (but the same) for the twins. I think two completely different initials would seem a bit odd

I wouldn't go with the letter theme, it's very constraining. Maybe pick a C name as a middle name. Cara and Harper make a nice set.

Caelan Cerys Cohen Cara are hard K sounds, right?
In that case Cassie or Cadence (nn Cady) Courtney or Cassidy

There are lots of C names that we adore so could easily pick another one to go with Cara, it's just whether we should choose another initial for the twins. If we go with Cara we'll definitely have another C name as we wouldn't want 4 kids beginning with C and one being different.

It sounds like you want all C names. I wouldn't do it myself but there's nothing wrong with it. Go for it!

The post thing might be a little inconvenient but I don't think it's the end of the world, but then I don't have any experience word raising twins!

Rogue word "word" in there, sorry. My phone hates me.

I just can't imagine us not naming one of the girls Cara

I don't think their names should start with a C.

But Kara is a real name, not just a misspelled version of Cara.

Kara and Kate.
Kara and Kyra
Kara and Kerstin.
Kara and Kendra.
Kara and Kaysa.

Why not?

Please think of them as actual people rather than a theme. As twins they'll share so much personal data already - at least give them individual initials!

Once your kids get a bit older sorting the mail at your house will be a nightmare!

Harper and Larkin are a good twin combo.

Break the theme. Definitely.

GinSwig I'd be very interested to know if any of those people in your family also shared a date of birth?

To give a scenario, what if one twin is allergic to say penicillin and the other is not. You'd want to give the medical staff as much opportunity to differentiate the medical files as possible given that surname, DOB and address are all the same.

Last time I took my DS to A&E my DD's name was called in the waiting room because they'd entered Freestone, DOB into the computer when checking him in and didn't notice they'd selected the wrong child.

Cara and Cicely
Cara and Frances
Cara and Alexandra
Cara and Jane
Cara and Louise
Cara and Joanne
Cara and Emma
Cara and Elizabeth.

Having written it I think I prefer Cora to Cara, but please do call your babies what you like and good luck with it all.
