Elvis

My husband is of another nationality and we are struggling for a boys name which works for both languages / cultures.

He suggested Elvis which I immediately rejected - but within about 2 mins it started growing on me and is now one of the only contenders!!

So - with the return of the "old-fashioned" names, has enough time passed for Elvis to work as a name in the UK?

I quite like unusual names - so not worried that it is not too common.

No no no - that's too much of a burden to put on any child. Cute for a baby/toddler - but imagine a geeky awkward teenager having a hard time at High School whose name is Elvis. He will hate you for it.

I met an Elvis and the connection didn't even occur to me. He's wasn't wearing a leather jacket and an oiled quiff, he was just a guy who happened to be named Elvis

Ref the comment about how Elvis would work on a teenager / the burden... my thought was that I bet 9 - 13 year olds today don't event know who "the" Elvis was - never mind those in 2030 (!!!) which would be more than 50 yrs after his death!!!

... anyone able or willing check the name out with a pre or young teenage???

I met a chap in his twenties called Elvie which I thought was a great name. When asked about his name he just said, 'hippy parents'.

No, purely because it rhymes with "pelvis" and leave DS with a lot to live up to!

My teenagers (and 11 year old) know who Elvis is.

I like it and it was on our shortlist too,but I'm now glad it wasn't used.

If you do really love it people will just accept it as your son's name but there will inevitably be some hurdles to cross..

Apparently, Stitch, of Lilo and stitch fame, is a huge Elvis fan.

What about Levi? Has a similar feel to it.

Yeah, why not! It's ace. I went to school with one, but his parents were slightly mad as they'd lumbered him with the full name Elvis Aaron Presley Surname.

The history department in my school teach an Elvis topic.

As a child's name I would say don't do it.

I worked with one on my travels and thought it was a very cool name! He had an exotic surname too, which made it all the better. Go for it!

I considered it for ds, dh wasn't keen. If I didn't love the name he has, I'd regret not using it - it would've really suited him. Go for it, neither of my dcs have heard of him (11 and 7).

All of mine know / knew who Elvis is, and, if you mention his name, would start singing one of his songs.
I wouldn't - to me it's one of those few names that everyone will always associate with one person, so for anyone else, it will be presumed they are named after them.

I know a teenage Elvis. He's a lovely lad, and as far as I know has no problems with his name.

Such a cool name. Yes the connection with the most famous Elvis will be there, but can't see a problem. The name Jesus is used commonly in some countries & I've met two personally who have coped without too much negativity.
