Levison/Leveson

Dh loves Levison/Leveson, mainly because he loves Lev as a shortening. But I'm not sure it goes with our other children's names of Alexander (Alex), Gabriel (Gabe) and Isabella (Bella)?

Interested in opinions!

Levin!

Sandsnake · 26/03/2017 20:33

I just came on here to thank you for making me think of Levison Wood. And to say that I really rate your other children's names. Neither of those statements were particularly helpful. Sorry.

Sand you're welcome!

Levison, Levi, Lev.
Goes nicely with your other names, all good OP !

I would just go with Lev (although it makes me think of Trotsky, and that might be a problem for some people).

Hayley0509 · 20/08/2017 22:31

My son is Levison (after Levison Wood) and we call him Lev or Levy for short. Levy as in lev-ee not lev-eye and we always get comments on how lovely and unusual it is :-)

nooka · 20/08/2017 22:42

Makes me think of the inquiry too. Your other children have pretty traditional names, one child with a surname as first name would stand out as very different I think. I know it's probably challenging finding a third great boys name, but I'd not be impressed if my dh insisted on just one rather odd name and wouldn't consider anything else. It's also quite likely that a Leveson/Levison would end up being called Levi, so if you don't like Levi then that would be a problem too.

Sophronia · 20/08/2017 22:43

How about just Lev or Levin?

SwedishEdith · 20/08/2017 22:47

I like because of Levison Wood. Not sure I would otherwise. How about Ludovic and have Ludo? Or Otto?

MrsFrankieHeck · 20/08/2017 22:47

Oh god no, it's the inquiry.

FizzyGreenWater · 21/08/2017 14:17

My goodness no. Really DON'T.

Not only is it dreadful, it's so far removed from your other DC names that it comes across as really unfair - lovely classic names with good shortenings for the others and then this-?!

Agree that your DH needs to either buck his ideas up or face that fact that you'll be naming this one! 'It's the only name I like' - no sorry, not allowed, that's code for 'I want my own way with no compromise'. You have three others who he presumably managed to come to reasonable agreement on? He goes away and compiles a list of five like every other reasonable person, sorry.

Also, never never never choose a name based on the fact that you want a certain nickname, and especially not on a whim like this which results in a dreadful made up name. Leveson because he likes Lev? So what does he do when his DS and peers decide he's Lee? Or Sonny? Um...

Lev is a bit random but not awful. Go for Levi if that's what you want, but again, this jars with your other choices.

The one that springs to mind is Sebastian, similarly long and classic with the short form Seb, which isn't a million miles from Lev in its 'feel'.

squoosh · 21/08/2017 14:34

Levison is weird, and Leviticus is the weirdest book in the OT. So no to either of them.

Apparently Lev means lion and is a full name in its own right so why not just go for that? Or call him Leo or Leon and then Lev as a nickname (like Tolstoy).

Amee1992x · 21/08/2017 14:44

I don't think it's terrible, but what I was gonna say is I have never once thought about my children's names matching 🤷🏻‍♀️! Out of the other suggestions people have posted I like Greyson x

ASplendidMoomin · 22/08/2017 10:44

A friend of mine (Armenian heritage) is Levon, known as Lev. I love the name.

KeiraH · 22/08/2017 18:13

Was coming on to say that in Russia, where I am from, Lev is a name in it's own right... Lev Tolstoy for example. It means Lion. But @squoosh had beat me to it 😊
