If you're going to use those names, at least spell them properly so the poor kid doesn't spend it's whole life correcting people's spelling.

Erm.. Jackson and Jaxon are pronounced the same and both spellings are fine. Jaxson is just odd.

Talia always confuses me. It could cause some issues with pronunciation. Is it Ta-leah? TAH-lia?

OnNaturesCourse · 27/03/2017 01:00

We say Jackson like jack son
We say Jaxson/Jaxon like Jack sin

Spelling to me is neither here nor there. I have a completely made up spelling of a extremely common name and I love it. Makes it mine and mine alone.

Talia/Taliah... We say Ta lay ah

It's hard to write how you say something lol. What's your thoughts on the Beth Lyn / Bethlyn middle name. They are our grandparents names and we want them in memory. I think I prefer Beth Lyn as separate names

OP posts:
Usanayme · 27/03/2017 01:26

Prefer Beth Lynne to Bethlyn as when I say Bethlyn I just blur the sounds together and the individual names get lost

FiveMinutesAlone · 27/03/2017 01:36

I'd pronounce Jackson and Jaxon the same way too. With an "on" sound at the end, to rhyme with klaxon.

I think that a "Jack sin" pronunciation of Jaxon isn't the usual pronunciation, and you're likely to have to explain that to people.
Spelling it "Jaxin" would look phonetically correct for a pronunciation of "Jack sin".

Orangebird69 · 27/03/2017 01:44

Hmm either spell it properly or be prepared to have to explain the pronounciation. For ever. It just looks contrived and pretentious as 'Jaxson'. That's my thoughts anyway.

OneSecondAfter · 27/03/2017 01:51

Yeah, if you want it to be pronounced Jack-sin, you should spell it with an I. Jaxin.

MitzyLeFrouf · 27/03/2017 02:22

Jackson is a nice name. Jaxson (which I think everyone would pronounce just as they do Jackson) is just awful. As in really, really awful. He can still be called Jax day to day even if he's really a Jackson.

Taliah I like!

But definitely no to Jaxson!

ImsorryTommy · 27/03/2017 02:42

'To me, spelling is neither here nor there'. It is to the rest of the world though.

Gallavich · 27/03/2017 06:38

You can't just make up pronunciations of sounds that nobody else knows!
Jaxson is not pronounced with an I sound at the end because O is not pronounced I
Taliah is not pronounced Ta Lay Ah because I is not pronounced AY
If you want Ta Lay Ah you need to spell it something like Talaia or Talaya
Your approach to spelling and pronunciation makes you look uneducated tbh

GinIsIn · 27/03/2017 06:48

It really doesn't matter how you say it, what PPs are trying to tell you is how everyone else will pronounce it. If you don't like those pronounciations you shouldn't use the names.

Please consider spelling them properly and using Jackson or Talia. Made up spellings are going to give your child nothing but grief in later life.

Tinnie88 · 27/03/2017 07:02

I prefer Jack on its own. I've never liked Jaxon/Jackson but if you really want to use it I prefer the proper spelling.

I really like Thalia. Spelt like that though. But it's always pronounced Ta-Lee-ah where I live.

middle names fine if your going for sentimental. I prefer bethlyn but only because I don't personally like more than one middle name. Or beth-Lyn?

Tinnie88 · 27/03/2017 07:03

tar-lee-ah even

Rockaby · 27/03/2017 08:06

I think me saying this is probably a little pointless as it seems as if you are totally set on the name Jaxson and spelling; if that's the case, I wonder why you bothered asking for opinions really... just use it. It's your choice. I don't like it, but do you care what a stranger on the internet thinks Smile? Anyway, you did ask, so here goes.

In every accent I can think of, klaxon pronounced klack-son to rhyme with on. It is more like klacksin, which is how everyone I know would pronounce Jaxon or Jackson, (I know a few people with Jackson as a surname). I have never heard of a Jackson pronounced jack-son to rhyme with on. It's always more like Jacksin with slight emphasis on first syllable.

Rockaby · 27/03/2017 08:08

"In every accent I can think of, klaxon is never pronounced klack-son to rhyme with on."

This^^ is what my last post should have said!

MrsGB2225 · 27/03/2017 08:09

I don't like Jaxson, but I love Talia!

PetalMettle · 27/03/2017 10:53

I like Talia but would pronounce it tah Lee ah. Thalia I'd pronounce thar or thay Lee ah (which then gets close to failure)
I agree with everyone else the S is extraneous on Jaxon, but would prefer Jackson if anything

OneSecondAfter · 27/03/2017 12:04

It is more like klacksin, which is how everyone I know would pronounce Jaxon or Jackson

The sound is called a schwa. I agree that it does not rhyme with on like in gone, but nor does it rhyme with in like in fin.

Rockaby · 27/03/2017 12:13

Thanks one. You are obviously more knowledgeable about phonetics (is that the right word?) than me Smile!

Klaxon, Jaxon, Jackson and Jaxin would all sound the same / rhyme in my accent and DH's. I have an Irish accent, he has a Hampshire one.

harrietm87 · 28/03/2017 01:23

Jaxon, Jackson, Jaxin, Jaxson all sound exactly the same in my accent too. Jackson is the standard spelling with Jaxon as the alternative - wouldn't it be easier to choose one of those rather than creating a new spelling?

Talia, Thalia and Taliah are all ta-lee-a (though emphasis on the first syllable). "i" makes an "ee" sound here - it can never make an "ay" sound so if you want it to be pronounced ta-lay-a I think you need to find a new spelling.

Both names perfectly nice imo!

Rockaby · 28/03/2017 06:58

Agree that Thalia / Talia / Taliah is always going to be pronounced Ta-lee-a. I think it would need to be Talaya or something to be pronounced the way you want it OP.

RiverdaleJughead · 28/03/2017 11:33

Chavvy AF ... or redneck

RiverdaleJughead · 28/03/2017 11:37

Although I like talia just not with the million middle names and personally think Lynn always makes it sound chavvy
