Roseanna or Rosie?

Hello,

Our baby girl was born last night. We really like Rosie. We also really like Roseanna. However, we really don't like the Rosanna spelling (but we know this is the most known) so that won't be an option and we aren't that fussed on just Rose, but do like it as a shortening for Rosie.

We just don't know if we should go for just Rosie or Roseanna (and use Rosie and Roseanna interchangeably) I'm sure both would also become Rose too.

We are set on either Rosie or Roseanna though, so definitely not looking for suggestions, but thank you :)

Roseanna.

Rosie works on people aged 0-11. After that it gets very twee. I would hate to be called Rosie as an adult. Of course your daughter might love it but just in case she doesn't Roseanna seems like a sensible plan.

My name is Roseanna! And I shorten it to Rosie. Always have. Some people call me Rose but more as a shortening of Rosie if that makes sense.

This thread has excited me more than it should!

Oh, I do always have to spell my full name to people though. And there was never anything in gift shops with my name on it as a kid.

People actually used to mangle my name all the time as a child 'Roseyanna', 'Roseanne'. 'Rosina'. Drove my dad mad, especially as it's literally said how it looks and spelled how it sounds!

I think that as more unusual or names from other cultures have become more common in the UK, we've got a bit better at checking on names and pronunciation etc. So I wouldn't worry too much about that. Most people will only have to be corrected once if they get it wrong.

Roseanna. Or do you like Rosalia?

Asuitablemum · 25/03/2017 22:12

Lonely name btw

Ojoj1974 · 25/03/2017 22:13

Rose and Rosie while she is little. It will be a nightmare having a name like Rosanna spelt differently. It will drive her and you nuts when everyone gets it wrong!

MistressMolecules · 25/03/2017 22:49

Of the two names Roseanna definitely! As previous poster said Rosie might not be her cup of tea when she reaches 40+

Congratulations FlowersStar

I prefer Rosanna to Rosie on it's own, and you're right you could use them interchangeably. However if you don't like the spelling won't it really bug you?
Also if you go for Roseanna then if the child doesn't like Rosie, they have other nn options like Rose, Rosa or Anna.

My DH thinks I wrote this thread as I have been suggesting Roseanna nn Rosie!

Also not sure on the preferred spelling as I want it to be pronounced Rose-anna, not Ros-anna or Ros-arna. Roseanna is pretty hard to mispronounce though, so maybe that's the best choice, I hadn't considered that. As we have a long surname, I was toying with Rosana but that definitely could be pronounced a few different ways. DH is concerned because our local Indian restaurant is Roz-Ana (which translates as "come everyday" - we have Indian heritage) 😂

Roseanna. It gives her more options.
Congratulations
